Morning Report: Book One A decade on from their first kiss, Luke Murray is more in love with Simon every day. Running the Lost Cow ranch for Luke's parents, they keep their heads down and get along with the locals, even if Luke is known for being a hothead. Then one day they discover the local store owners refuse to serve them. They're bewildered until Luke's mom tells them the new pastor has targeted the couple in his sermons. Suddenly Luke and Simon find themselves alienated from people they called friends, and their ranch comes under a series of attacks. I was really excited for this book, because I love romances where the couple are already in an established relationship. But this book is just plain dull. None of the characters were particularly interesting, the sex wasn't particularly inspiring (and there was way too much of it), and the plot just didn't make sense. The townspeople go from being okay with gay people, to hating gay people, to accepting them again. Because of ONE man and his parody like preaching of "G-d hates fags"? And then all it takes is a gay man replacing him to change everyone's minds again? Another reviewer had it right when they described the characters as "Stepford Christians". It's like no one had their own brain. ( )

Morning report was like a day time soap. Drama, Sex, drama, sex, and more drama. ( )

This was a great story. Definitely going on my favorite list. ( )

The over all story was great and the author handled the topic with out becoming preachy. It was nice to see an established couple confront problems and come through the trials still together. I also liked that not everything was solved in the end, there were still issues with some members of the community but they found acceptance in a new community. A good solid story but not outstanding. ( )

I enjoy Sue Brown's work and I was looking forward to reading this after checking out the summary. It was well written with engaging characters but I felt a little 'meh' when I finished.

I never thought I'd see the day when I wanted plot over sex but that was the case here. I was really intrigued by the premise - two out men suddenly finding themselves ostracised by those who they'd considered friends - and was disappointed that this particular element wasn't as fleshed out as I'd hoped. It could have been a really gritty and tense storyline but it waxed and waned in intensity and, in the end, was kind of left hanging. It's not the kind of story that can be neatly tied up in a bow, but I'd hoped for a more satisfying resolution.

And, while the sex was hot, I found myself skimming over it by the time I reached the half-way point, and I pretty much skipped over the whole mini-vacation thread and found I didn't miss anything by doing so.
