Great starter historical fiction. An excellent way to learn our western history! ( )

The film is cute and with several cool moments, but inconsistencies in the plot and world-building combined with a protagonist who (beyond a sense of responsibility and undeniable bravery) never fixes anything without simply being handed the solution by his father or his friends detract a lot. I also can't help but be irked on the inaccuracies in the portrayal of the Greek mythology elements, but for the intended demographic, that's hardly a big problem, and so I can't justifiably hold that strongly against it. Overall it's an enjoyable, if shallow, action adventure for younger audiences, with just enough neat stuff going on that an adult can be moderately entertained as well. ( )

Percy Jackson struggles with learning disabilities, getting through school, and a rude stepfather. Until one day, he discovers the identity of his biological father: Poseidon. He then is sent to a camp where he finds belonging and adventure. This is one of my childhood favorites because of how well it involves Greek mythology into YA fiction ( )

Learning about one's family may be hard for some, but finding out your father is a Greek God must be the best thing ever. You learn learn why his life has been the way it has as well as the powers he possesses. ( )
