wow.
dare I give this book a 4 stars?
maybe a 3.5, or even a 4 stars with this one. Killer ending, absolutely wrapped everything up. Amazing.
I've been so deprived of good literature after reading other supposedly good YA fiction (according to goodreads ratings). This was great book. It's sad that adult realistic fiction is probably dirty (or so I'm assuming from other books I've tried to read in that genre) because they COULD be quite sensible and achieve some sort of literary decency, but I'm not even going to try to see if there are sensible ones because that's not something I need in my life.

(I seriously miss 1990s literature. It seemed everything was a little more realistic back then, as far as YA books go, as well as cleaner)

I digress.

The 411:

the good:
solid theme/
solid morals
solid ending, wraps everything up nicely
realistic character interactions and plot events
not really dramatic/ no nonsense
suspensful
fun read/quick to read
author is compassionate towards characters
a little sad
good ending, not undeserved. not super happy but not super sad.

The bad:
A little simple. Some might even consider it to be (by construction of sentences and some plot occurrences) contrived or cheezy. Personally, I did not

The ugly:
dare I say.... nothing?

The personal:
set in the 1990s.... ( )

15-year-old Sean, a kid who has grown up in a dysfunctional and abusive family, finally gets a break and a new start on life when he is sentenced to 80 hours community service on a farm run by Dave Hassler, an elderly war veteran and widower. This is an extremely well-written and touching story. Brings to light that heroes can be anywhere and anyone. Recommended read. ( )

Hero is a very intresting book as far as i have read. The story line is very compelling and it keeps me wanting to read more. The story is very simple and not confusing. It is an easy story to be able to follow without getting lost. I highly reccomend other classmates to read this book. ( )

Sean has been living with his divorced, abusive, alcoholic mother for years. When Sean gets in trouble at school he is sentenced to community service on a ranch owned by Mr. Hassler. Sean never dreams of such a life changing experience in only one week.

A very good book for young adults. This is one of my all time favorites for young people. ( )
