Well, it's a bit out of date, since the edition I read was from 2000 and the NHL has changed a few rules here and there between then and now, but, the basics are all still there and haven't changed.

Also, I didn't really get it out for the technical rules, but more so that I could understand stuff like, what's a check and what's a penalty, or stuff to do with face offs and icing. Or stuff about power plays and how the players do the over the wall changes during play.

Hockey has always been the one sport that I just didn't understand, and, with this book's help I do think that I can now watch a game and not be totally lost.

Still, the book wasn't perfect. Though I think I understand body and cross checks much better, I still find I'm lost when it comes to some of the, 'is it a penalty or not' questions. (Not the obvious ones like icing and offsides, but whether a hit is illegal and that sorta thing).

Still, it's a good starting point book for understanding the game of Hockey. ( )
