I really enjoyed this book because it helps show students the meaning behind "back and forth". One way the book describes back and forth is by saying that back and forth is a movement backward and forward. Another way the book describes back and forth for young students is a girl swinging on a swing. One last way the book effectively describes back and forth is by saying arms move back and forth. This book did an effective job at explaining back and forth to young students so therefore I would give it a 5 star. ( )

Back and Forth is a pattern book that will teach students the difference between back and forth and also helps build their vocabulary. This book helps a reader learn that the majority of our actions convey an back and forth movement and by using things that we do in everyday life any reader will be able to pick up on it. I rate this book a 4 out of 5 stars. I feel like the book could reiterate questions in the book for the reader to respond to after learning back and forth. ( )

I like this book because it is nonfiction, and it shows real life examples of things that go back and forth. The pictures in the book are of real things and people, which can make it easier for a student to identify things that move back and forth in real life. Arms, balls, and waves are things children can point out in real life. I like that the book is nonfiction because it also introduces children to a different genre of text. Most books that early elementary students read are fiction and illustrated in a cartoon style. A book like this shows how text can relate to real life.

I would rate Back and Forth a 5 out of 5 stars. This is a great book for beginning readers. There are few words which form simple sentences and illustrations for if the child isn't quite sure what the sentence says. This story is great for early elementary school age kids. This book is great for simple word recognition and I will definitely use this in my classroom in the future. ( )

I am giving this book a 5 out of 5 stars because it can definitely be used as a great tool to, not only introduce pattern books but also help beginner readers build reading skills. I think this book will be best used with younger students, rather than older age groups. I also think pattern books are very helpful for those students who struggle with word recognition and fluency. There might be pattern books like “Back and Forth” for older students that I could use if I teach older grades. In addition, this book can more than definitely be used with English Language Learners; the book has pictures that go along with the words, so it can be very beneficial for ELL’s. ( )
