Yet another DNF to the list due to slogging pace, over use of colloquialisms and characters that lack depth, especially the protagonist. Having read many books by Southern authors, I had high hopes. Oh well on to greater things! (

Read this after watching Winter's Bone. It was quite a story and close to home with meth production and use such a scourge in Missouri. Woodrell is quite a story teller. A bit raunchy but entertaining.

Could not get into the first story “under the bright lights”. Never finished (read to pg 100) then stopped. (

Two fairly straightforward crime novellas with an interesting milieu and some snappy dialog and then a third which builds on the back story alluded to previously to deliver an unexpectedly emotional story about regret, loss, parenting and just plain getting old.

Really fascinating reading all three together like this. Good stuff. (
