Close friends Allan and Warwick are dead. They're not crazy about the idea, so to help them deal with this dilemma are Samantha, a blond bombshell from the 1950s, and Guy, an insecure angel. Allan also has a secret. He has a romantic crush on his friend, Warwick, but shortly after confiding in his new angel pal, his love interest falls for the cock-sure playwright, Pedro. Adorable. Definitely could've used another pair of eyes to edit errors (especially commas) and clumsiness, but the story and characters totally won me over. The narrator has seen and done a lot of, erm, 'interesting' things, bur retains an innocent optimism that is refreshing and endearing.

Some clever lines I hope you can appreciate before you have full context:

On reluctance - I summoned my feet to walk in the general direction, and on second request, they responded."

"What is it about the stage that appealed [sic] to those longing for self-respect?" (should be 'appeals')

After the dynamic duo got into mischief - "She rolled her eyes with a full grasp of our addiction for misconduct."

To a character behaving badly - "[D}arling, just because you're misunderstood, doesn't mean you're an artist."

And just one example of inadequate editing: "There was heaps of food and ample to drink." (Should be 'were' heaps.)

By the Gods, I loved this book. And when I say I loved this book it’s because I also HATED this book.

So many emotions were brought up within me when I read it that I don’t even know where to start this review. But that, as a reader, is a good thing. Right?

The story was brilliant. The imagery was perfect. The characters were so real to my own life that I wanted to reach into the pages and strangle them.

Kevin Klehr managed to craft a story so realistic as to be both enlightening and frustrating at the same time. I wish I could describe why, but to do so would give away too much about the ending.

Rarely, RARELY, do I give a book five stars. But this time I do.

Would I recommend this book to everyone? No way. Would I recommend it to my LGBT friendly friends? Absolutely.

I’ve heard rumors that there’s a second book coming. This reader cannot wait to pick up a copy and get just as lost as she did in the first one. ( )

It was difficult to find a label for this novel, it’s a Fantasy (I tend to classify as Fantasy every novel with an angel in it, moreover when the story is set in the Afterlife) but it’s also Gay Romance, since the main purpose of Allan is to finally conquer his friend Warwick, even if that will happen after they are both dead. Probably the best label is Satire, because I think the author is playing with the stereotype of the gay novels to make them his own and craft his personal genre.

If I have to be sincere, more than for Allan to conquer Warwick, I was cheering for Guy, the Angel, to learn how to fly: in my mind, I had this idea that, if he learned to fly, he was also more likely to conquer Allan. Yes, I think Allan was better suited with Guy then Warwick, and maybe there was a reason why they didn’t end together during their life. Anyway I’m digressing, but that gives you the idea that I really liked Guy and I hope the author will consider to give us his story.

I want to highlight that I did have some trouble in “entering” the story, sure it was clear that Allan and Warwick were dead and that they were in a some sort of limbo between life and Heaven, but we were thrown into it without much warning, and I had to grasp details like Allan was doing… maybe that was the purpose of the author, Allan has just died and it’s not like you know what will happen after death.

The ending was quite a surprise, and I’m not yet sure if it left me eager to read more (nice insight on the life in the suburbs of a long-term couple, right what I like) or shocked. Sure the author prepared us and so we know it’s not that tragic as it could seem, but still… I was a little shocked.

Lasting not on the title, that is perfect for the story: the characters are a little over the top, so yes, this was really a story about Drama Queens with Love Scenes. Oh, and the cover? I loved the cover!
