This is one of those books that have an awful lot of potential. The story idea of matching a lonely human with a Native American shaman and a powerful werewolf is great. The initial setup of Derek and how he is saved from himself and given a chance on the ranch where Ishwar works is good. The conflict between Ishwar and the werewolf, Lucas, is set up and ready to explode.

Then, about halfway, it all fell apart for me. Derek clearly fell for Lucas, but there was no inner conflict about him being torn between Ishwar and Lucas. He didn't even seem to think about it. He bounces back and forth between the two men, who end up bound together via an ancient ritual - all without rhyme nor reason.

I hated the lack of rationale to what Derek was doing, the conflict between Lucas and Ishwar is never discussed, dealt with or used to drive the plot. I really wish Missy Lyons had taken the time to develop this story to its full potential. ( )

Since I wrote the book, it's probably not fair for me to review it. However, if you like a good book with an imperfect hero that has Murphy's luck, you should like it. ( )
