The author died this week, which both saddened me and gave me the chance to order and read this book, which I hadn’t read before (I’d read Godric and a few of his nonfiction/memoirs).

This book does not disappoint. Characters that stick with you, and both humor and grief. Thoroughly enjoyed it. ( )

Is Leo Bebb a huckster or a prophet? When a rootless young artist from New York buys a ministerial license from Bebb, he decides that Bebb is evil and flies to Florida to research and expose him, but he learns that not everything is easily explained. This is a tantalizing book. Most of the scenes and characters are tawdry, but the whole is greater than its parts. ( )
