Miriam left her Amish community four years ago, after a broken romance and before she joined the church. Content with the English life, but still feeling the pull of her Amish roots, she returns to her community at her mother’s sudden death. To her father and brother, she is unwelcome, and her younger sister scorns her, but her older sister and elderly aunt welcome her with open arms. This tale, the third in the series, follows Miriam as she travels the road away from the Amish and then back to it, but where will she stay - in the Amish community or in the English world? Her road is filled with detours and road blocks, the biggest being her failed relationship with her family and the loss of Timothy, the one man she truly loved. This well-written story is interesting as well as entertaining, and you likely will wish you could offer some advice to Miriam! But, finally, eventually, the truth will set everyone free. J ( )

A story about getting a second chance at happiness. But also a story that deals with something very hard for many, and that is forgiveness. Miriam Lapp will have to choose to forgive after her family has treated her very badly. But there is nothing better than having family forgive each other and the relationship restored. The author took a very tragic situation in a young woman's life and turned it around for good, but at times I thought it would never happen.

Miriam Lapp left her Amish community four years ago, leaving behind the love of her life, Timothy, and her family to live in the 'English' world and escape the pain she left behind. Now she gets a phone call from one of her sisters telling her that her Mom has passed away. With a broken heart she returns for the funeral, only to be rebuffed by her father and some of her siblings. She must also face Timothy, the man she was to marry at one time, but was fed false information about him and she believed it. Timothy has also believed a lie all these years about Miriam and why she left, but he too has never forgotten Miriam and has always loved her. Is it too late for these two to get back together? At times I would have said yes, but eventually their strong love for one another will win out.

The stories in this series have been hard to put down. They deal with real problems, some which don't always work out for the best for all involved. Not everything gets a happy ending. I encourage everyone to read the books in the order they were written because you will miss out on getting to really know these people and this community of Amish folks. Each story picks up shortly after the one before it ends. Looking forward to book 4, 'A Life of Joy' next. ( )

This book starts out with Miriam in Indiana and living with her cousin. She get a phone call from her sister about the mother. She then rushes home to Lancaster. When she arrives there she and her cousin stay with their aunt on the back of her father property.

Miriam is struggling to make amends with her father and also with Timothy. She finds out that her sister made lies for she was jealous of her older sister Miriam. Her father and the rest of the community blame her for the death of a child that died of SIDS.

She arrives home for the funeral of her mother's death. Her father makes it clear she not welcome. She hears that her past boyfriend has moved on and is marrying another girl. Does Miriam find the peace is seeking and get her love of her future? find out by reading. I recommend this book. Though I suggest that your read the earlier books first for this book refer to them a bit. "A Gift of Grace", "A Promise of Hope" are the two book before this book. ( )

Her heart broken by Timothy Kauffman, Miriam Lapp left the Amish community four years ago to build a new life. Her heart is broken again when she hears her mother has died. She returns to Gordonville, Pennsylvania for her mother's funeral and while there she feels the pull to rejoin the Amish and finally be baptized. She needs to move on from Timothy but she's not sure she can even though he seems to be involved with someone else. Will Miriam finally be able to move on or does God have other plans for her?

The third book in Amy Clipston's Kaufmann Amish Bakery series (following A Gift of Grace: A Novel (Kauffman Amish Bakery Series) and A Promise of Hope: A Novel (Kauffman Amish Bakery Series)), "A Place of Peace" is a nicely done novel about lost love that is found again. Clipston has created two believable characters, Miriam and Timothy, who are torn apart by circumstances beyond their control yet never forget each other. Miriam is the deeper of the two characters as she struggles not only with what she thought was Timothy's betrayal but a tragic incident that happened while she was babysitting, as well as her mother's death and her family's reluctance to accept her return from the English world. While Timothy's struggles to move on from Miriam are well portrayed by Clipston, I wanted to shake him at times for his continued refusal to see what was happening right before his eyes (I also felt sorry for Naomi and am happy to see that the next book in the series will feature her story). I also wondered why Miriam was treated so harshly by her family yet her sister Lilly, who I thought acted far worse than Miriam, got off scot free - to me this means Clipston has created believable characters that I care about and want to know more about.

"A Place of Peace" is a nicely done novel set in the Amish community. ( )
