Has lots of voice. It could be used for a lesson dealing with expression ( )

Alliteration and repetition are good in this picture book. Short words but simply repeated.

Chomp. Chomp. Chomp. . .Yum!

"Bunny Eats Lunch" is a cutesy concept book about a rabbit who likes to chew lots of things, especially carrots, celery, and mashed potatoes, but also guitars, trees, and baseballs. That is the extent of the story contained within this book. The publishers had hoped that it would promote self-care, animal recognition, speaking skills, and a child learning his or her first words; however, I do not see how the book promotes any of those concepts. The chewing bunny and his mother are the only characters in the book. The bunny makes messes everywhere and gets food all over himself while eating. The bunny does not actually speak, and the words used in the story are very repetitive and dull; they are also not words typical of first word learning. "Bunny Eats Lunch" may be fun to read with young kids because of the bright colors and adorable bunny, but other than the silly rabbit aspect there is little of value here.

The aesthetic appeal of this board book is its redeeming quality. The colors are in an orange and green theme, strangely fitting to the main character, who is a rabbit. The illustrations are very large and take up the entire page; the words are also large, although the most fun words on each page, like "chew," "chomp," and "yum" are always in the largest font. The book itself is larger than most board books, and this does help draw visual attention to it. The pages are very thick and easy to turn, although the binding may not be the best quality because my copy was very much falling apart. However, the physical state of the book might also just be a statement of how popular this particular board book is at my library.
