Descripción:
The MV Museum Research Library is the world's most comprehensive collection of resources related to the history and culture of the island of Martha's Vineyard. It is open to the public Tuesday-Friday from 10-4 (10-5 from May 24-Oct 14), and by appointment.

The reading room houses books, pamphlets, and over 1000 topical files on topics related to the Island and its residents, as well as substantial collections on whaling, coastal shipping, lighthouses, shipwrecks, and lifesaving. The book collection includes biographies and memoirs of prominent residents and visitors, as well as fiction, poetry, cookbooks, and children's literature connected to Martha's Vineyard, and a comprehensive collection of genealogical resources on Island families.

The Library also serves as the access point for the MV Museum Archives, which include more than 300 separate collections of historic documents related to individuals, institutions, groups, and topics, along with 50,000 historic images and nearly 1,000 maps and nautical charts. Material from the archives--which also hold rare books, town reports, historic newspapers, ship's logs, and hundreds of oral histories--can be brought to the Library

The MV Museum Research Library welcomes walk-in visitors, but researchers--especially those coming from the mainland--are cordially encouraged to email or phone ahead.
