- The Sydney Mechanics’ School of Arts is the oldest operating School of Arts in Australia. Our members form a lively community that has existed since 1833. In 2013, we are celebrating our 180th year.

We are proud to be the home of the longest continuously running lending library in Australia. Our members’ call it their haven in the city.

TOM KENEALLY CENTRE http://smsa.org.au/tom-keneally-centre
A cultural hub, the Tom Keneally Centre is houses the memorabilia and books of acclaimed author, Thomas Keneally. Devoted to Australian literature and history, we hold regular talks, author readings and writing classes.
The Tom Keneally is also open as a drop in centre every Tuesday and Thursday from 10:30 - 2:30pm. Come and visit; it’s a perfect place to do some research or just enjoy some peace and quiet. Everyone welcome!

Come along to our talks, readings and screenings. Covering everything from history and art to current affairs and literature, there’s always something interesting on.
Members can also enjoy our members’ social activities and groups. New members always welcome!

We offer affordable venue hire in the Sydney CBD near Town Hall that is sure to be perfect for your event.
Hire our large Theatre or our flexible Meeting Rooms that can be configured to meet your needs.
