- Descripción:
- Two Sisters Bookery is located in Historic Downtown Wilmington, N.C. in the Cotton Exchange shopping complex. Across the street from the Cape Fear River, the Cotton Exchange housed a cotton-shipping warehouse in the early 1900’s. In 1974, preservationists and developers joined to restore the buildings and turn it into one of the first themed retail shopping complexes in the country.
A bookstore has been in this location since the renovation. The first store, called The Bookery, was owned over the years by several people. In 1991, sisters Mary House and Wanda Canady opened joint ventures in Wilmington and Fayetteville, NC. (Yes, there really were two sisters!). In 2002, Mary sold her store to the present owner, Cathy Stanley.
The mission to offer an eclectic selection of quality books and gifts to the customer is the same as it has been from the beginning. We have added the component of community outreach by holding book signings both in store and off-premises, with many local nonprofit entities. Many visitors describe the look of the store as 'The Shop Around the Corner'-ish from the movie, You’ve Got Mail. We are especially proud of our local history, conscious living, and Southern fiction sections. If we don’t have it in stock, we can easily order it for you, or you can order it online and have it shipped to the store or your front door. - Añadido Por
