The following current newspapers and periodicals are available for viewing in the library: the Irish Examiner, the Irish Times, the Evening Echo, Inside Cork, Lá, Saol, the Southern Star, the Sunday Times, the Sunday Tribune, the Vale Star, An Cosantóir, Comhar, Consumer Choice, Crann, Economist, Food and Wine, Hello, Ideal Homes, Irish Tatler, New Scientist, Newsweek, Phoenix, Technology Ireland, Treoir, U Magazine, Vogue, Walking World Ireland, Which and Woman's Way.

Internet access is available on four PCs. Advance booking for this service is advisable.

Events

Various activities are held throughout the year, including involvement in the Bealtaine Festival, the Summer Arts Programme and the Children's Book Festival.

Reference and Local Studies

Reference and Local Studies is a specialist department at the County Library. It answers requests daily for information on a wide range of topics, mainly local history, genealogy and general reference queries. This department has an extensive collection of specialist reference works, encyclopaedias, almanacs, yearbooks, atlases and other reference tools. It is also the County Library's main repository for local history materials, including books, newspapers and maps.

Reference and Local Studies also houses a number of unique collections, as follows:

* Cork collection
* Official Publications collection
* Irish Reference collection
* Biography collection
* Family History collection
* Irish Literature in English collection
* Litríocht Gaeilge
* Periodical collection
* Newspaper collection

Reference and Local Studies is open to the public from Monday-Friday, 9:00am-5:30pm, and is closed on Mondays of bank holiday weekends. All items are available for viewing by the public. Materials held by the Reference and Local Studies Department are not available for loan.
