A friend of mine is trying to find information about a Radio 4 story she heard perhaps as many as 10 years ago. This is how she describes it:

" I heard a BBC Radio 4 programme some time back (I think within the last ten years but I am not certain) about a woman in her seventies (who may well still be alive) who spent her time walking about the country taking messages to people. She would start from wherever with a note, or small package, nothing urgent but I gather usually precious, and walk to deliver it. She would not know the person she was walking to, nor were they expecting her. She slept outdoors and got food as she could. The recipient was then asked to put together something for her to take to the next person. The idea was that the distances should be considerable. Norwich to Winchester sort of thing. I have tried more than once to trace her or the story, but no joy yet."

Does this sound familiar to anyone?
