I think these threads could cover all types of media renditions, too. I see that some earlier threads have covered this story, and perhaps we can migrate that info.

I was just looking at my shelf of childrens' traditional tales this weekend, and Sleeping Ugly, by Jane Yolen is there.

I thought to google the story too, and Wikipedia has a very good summation here:

Jane Yolen also did another version, Briar Rose, based around the holocaust and a not very close retelling of Sleeping Beauty.

This was my favourite Disney fairytale when I was younger!

Can I mention one of the male counterparts of 'The Sleeping Beauty' tale type, the Sleeping Warrior? One obvious retelling of this trope is H G Wells' The Sleeper Wakes, one of his early SF tales where the main character wakes after a long coma to find himself a sort of king (his investments have accumulated a huge fortune by compound interest); like Arthur and other sleeping warriors he joins in a fight to save a future Britain, but the ending is not a happy one.
