I have only become quite interested in Canadian literature within the past year... as such I find I have quite a lot of catching up to do in reading past 'classics'.

I am also interested in learning more about new or upcoming Canadian literature. Does anybody have any books they want to discuss?

The Giller prize longlist won't be until late September, going by last year's date.

I got a few books from Randomhouse Canada this spring from their New Faces of Fiction program. So far I've read Deloume Road, by Matthew Hooton, which was ok, but kinda slow. Some people like that though. I also read Motorcycles & Sweetgrass by Drew Hayden Taylor which was quite good, funny, with some magical/mythological native stuff. The last book, Doing Dangerously Well, by Carole Enahoro, I haven't read yet.

David Adam Richards, who wrote Mercy Among the Children,(loved it) has a new book coming out in September - Incidents in the Life of Marcus Paul
Camilla Gibb has a new book out in month or so, The Beauty of Humanity Movement.

Kathleen Winter's new novel Annabel is really good.

This fall will see new books from Jane Urquhart, Michael Winter (that's Kathleen's brother), David Adams Richards, Douglas Coupland, Richard Wright, and others. If you find a copy of Quill & Quire magazine, which is the trade mag of Canadian publishing, the current issue is the fall preview, which runs down all the fall releases that Q&Q thinks are notable.

OOO I might have to look into that... Thank you both for the great information! I love to hear about the upcoming books.

amajsomerset:I have a copy of Annabel for review, and will likely be starting it this weekend (Right now I finishing up two Cape Breton books). It is good to hear that you enjoyed it! :)

I really loved the Birth House by Ami Mckay, and she has a new book coming out any day now - The Virgin Cure. It was supposed to be out in October, but from what I am seeing when trying to order is that it is not out yet, and no date is given for it.

Can't wait read it.
