Oscar Wilde said; "The Gods punish us by answering our prayers". This is true especially when considering the petty and foolish things we often ask for. Do we proclaim to know what is actually good for us. Why not be happy with what we have got?

Today, the New Thought movement, under the pseudonym of 'Law of Attraction' is stronger than ever, when the DVD 'Secret' is best selling on Amazon.com and the author comes on the Oprah Winfrey shows one knows that there is a phenomenon at hand.
The 'Secret' is nothing more than a regurgitated version of concepts from these books and others in a familiar theme. It is creative visualization to achieve your earthy goals from personal happiness to business. There is a catch however.
When forcing Ether to get something, which is not karmically deserved, usually there is a backlash. This backlash is coming from disturbing the nature of things.
It is useful to creatively visualize things that are beneficial for others and not for petty selfish gains.
Remember the Cosmos is not an ATM machine....The techniques outlined in this book are powerful and can be called "white magic" or sorcery. Once upon the time one could get into serious trouble from the religious authorities for practicing or even talking about subjects such as this. Nowadays the only danger is that we might actually get what we asked for.

The power of positive thinking is a good thing.

We should never get TOO carried away, though.

Most of reality is not under anyone's voluntary control. And I mean ANYONE.

You do what you can do, to the degree you can, then you let it go.

That Thou Art is a statement of humility, not hubris.

All rivers come out of the infinite sea and eventually all rivers return to the infinite sea. Go with the flow. Attempting to swim up stream will only get you drowned. LOL.

The implications of the Secret are, to me, highly disturbing, not reassuring. From what I can tell, they are essentially saying that if a child has terminal cancer, its his own damn fault because he attracted it to him. I can't see how you can follow such a practice and still consider yourself a human being.

There is no "catch". This is just faulty programming that was installed in our brains by our parents and/or our culture. If you consider yourself an eternal being, and therefore believe that there is a hereafter where we will live a lot longer than the 70-odd years we have on this planet, then there's no reason to believe that we need to "deserve" or "be worthy". Everything that exists, exists for us. There is no reason for anything on this plane of existence to exists otherwise.

And yes, The Secret isn't new, but it made these concepts easily acceptable to the masses.

Bear in mind, DeusExLibrus, that the book is not the bible, nor does it claim to be infallible. This book is merely an expression of the author's knowledge at the particular point that the book was written. That's how she understands it, I don't agree with it, a lot of other people don't agree with it either. It doesn't mean that just because the author's philosophies/beliefs are erroneous in one aspect that therefore the entire book is wrong. Imperfect people write imperfect books. Take what you can use/agree/understand, and let the rest go.

I never meant to imply that the book or author was infallible. I was simply noting that taken at face value, those are the implications.

Agree totally with DeusExLibrus.

Are all the starving children in Africa attracting their hunger by thinking about being hungry?? Absurd.

Equally absurd is saying that you will find a parking place just by thinking that you will.

It doesnt work.

Somedays you will find one and somedays you wont.
