I thought that as well. Didn't notice the anagram though. Nice!

I don't think Avril and Luria can possibly be the same person (though I seem to remember that they're both from the area in the Great Con-vex/cav-ity where Himself is buried).
Luria is described as a hand model, and then later a "hand model" is one of Orin's Subjects. I think it's reasonable to assume the Subject, then, is Luria (especially given Orin's capture by the AFR later). Orin probably would have recognized his mother, even in disguise, don't you think? Also, remember Luria has infiltrated the Gentle administration, and it's tough to figure how she could have a full-time government job and still manage to give the impression to pretty much everybody at ETA that she never leaves the grounds.

I can't poke any holes in Sutpen's analysis above except that I think Orin has issues and would be attracted to his mother who also has issues and seems like she would be attracted to Orin.
Also, her last name, Perec, supports the rearranging and playing with letters bit.
hmm.

You got a point there pyro.
If anything, I think, in the least, DFW wanted us to wonder about the question.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but in the last conversation between Pemulis and Hal, where Pemulis says he has something very important to tell Hal (but never does tell him), I'm pretty sure he mentions something about Avril not being around much lately as part of his prologue to this mysterious info.
So, Pemulis must know something about Avril that we don't... ?? And that is... ??

I don't have the book in front of me, but presumably Pemulis was going to tell Hal about Avril and John? I am not positive that he never did tell him, though it certainly never happened in the narrative.
There is also the similarities between Avril and April, with a lot of stuff going down on April 1st, (the pagan new year).
