I have a copy of a limited edition illustrated book that is paperbound. Though in good shape, is getting on in age. Is having the book hardbound an option for preserving it - or merely a sure-fire way of shooting down its value for those who will one day pry it from my cold, dead hands?
Thank you

If the book is valuable, don't have it rebound.

You can purchase a phase box (see here and here), or you can have a nice clamshell box made for you by a binder.

(Oh, whatever you do, do not have it slipcased. That will abrade the book.)

Thank you kindly. Very good - I had not thought to check brodart.
