Exciting news! We got our new American Bulldog puppy tonight! She is so cute! If my kids will help me, I'll get some pictures on here asap! One problem...we don't have a name yet! I like Opal, we also thought of Phoenix and Finn. She is brown like a deer with a black muzzle and white tips on all four feet. She looks like a boxer but will be bigger and more muscular. Her father weighs 100 lbs and her mother is about 70 lbs at 1 year old. Any help will be appreciated and taken into serious consideration. Thanks, Mary Beth

Thanks for the suggestions Skoobdo, and the websites. That should be a big help. I would still like some votes for who likes what names, though. So far, some LTer's like Opal, my choice, but my husband is pushing for Phoenix. One of my daughters wants Hyacinth! Hyacinth? Oh my!

What about using both? There's nothing wrong with having a middle name. My boys both have middle names.

Opal Phoenix or Phoenix Opal

Oooo she sounds so cute! Based on how you described her coloring "Marble" might be a good compromise?

So sweet.....she sounds like a "Honey Bear" to me! Since from her description she may not look like a "girlie" dog so perhaps a more feminine name like "Opal" could be helpful, and Opal Phoenix sounds nice. My only other suggestion is to stand at the back door and see if you can call out the name without stumbling over the syllables.........when you need to have your dog come to you in a hurry you don't want trouble saying the name, lol.

Imager, my husband came up with the name Honey today. Do you believe we are still trying to think of one? We have many pictures but we haven't been able to download my phones camera, my husband's phone can be downloaded but we have been so busy. For sure this weekend though. Now we are thinking of Lila and so far it is popular with just about everybody. It was my husband's suggestion and it would be good for him to name her. I promise pictures and a little journaling asap. She is such a little pistol! Well, I need to sleep while she sleeps if I want any at all! Good Night!

>8 KimarieBee: I love that going to the back door and calling. It reminded me of when I got Raven (my lab/shepherd mix with a smidgen of chow I think because of her black tongue). She was left tied to the fence at the shelter. They named her Lisa. I tried several times calling her Lisa and she turned and walked away.

My dad had passed not long before and he liked The Raven by Edgar A Poe so I tried called her Raven and she came to me every time.

I guess the moral of the story is you might try different names on your puppy and see which one she likes. LOL

#9 Can't wait to see some photos and hear your beautiful girl's new name....(hint, hint)

#10 Good to hear that the old "stand at the back door and yell" system might work in finding a new dog's name...........must say that I find the name "Raven" very appealing (must be all that fantasy I've been reading)!

raven is nice.....

Its true that sometimes dogs choose their own names

Well, I have to say that the puppy did seem to prefer one name to the others and immediately responded to it. That name was Lyla. she didn't like Opal or
Finn. So Lyla it is. Princess Lyla of Daisy, or something since her father's name is King. But I have to see her parents papers cuz it will give me insight into what we can add to her name for the sake of the paperwork. She'll be called just Lyla. She is so ridiculously great. Smart, gentle, silly, and just beautiful. Very photogenic and sits nicely to have her picture taken. I will get some on here ASAP. I just got my memory card for my phone where a lot of them are. Thanks for the help, folks. PS. My daughter came home with a bunny (against our wishes)It is so cute though. A LionHead Dwarf Hotot bunny. Watch for pictures! His name is Morrison!

Oh I like Princess Lyla alot. Funny thing how pups can respond to names. But I know that to be true.

awaiting pics of the latest family members!!

Princess Lyla is such a great name and how nice that your family and dog chose it together! I immediately thought of Princess Leia so now I'm wondering if Lyla has ears that resemble Leia's topknots? Is there a story behind the name "Morrison" for your new pet bunny?

Congrats on the new puppy - and Lyla is a lovely name!

I'm glad everybody seems to like the name Lyla. The more time passes the more I like it also. She has beautifully soft velvet ears I am happy to say they are nothing like Princess Leia's topknots. Morrison is named for Jim Morrison of the Doors of course. Funny how every thing comes full circle. Who would have thought that my 22 year old daughter would be calling her rabbit by the name of a singer from my teen years! I am just loving my new puppy so much but she is a challenge because I always keep in mind what a big dog she will be and that we have to remind her that we are the dominant ones here.

I can vouch for the fact that controlling a large dog can be a challenge. Our boy Zorro is an 18 month old Doberman who still gets excited about everything in life. He's incredibly sweet natured but has managed to pull me off my feet a couple of times when he just couldn't resist something fascinating on the footpath. Definitely still needs his doggie obedience classes!!
