Borders UK ceased trading last week ( http://www.borders.co.uk/ and http://www.thebookseller.com/news/107871-end-of-days-for-borders-uk.html )

Is there an easy way for someone to mark their stores as defunct or is it a case of going through manually and finding each one?

I just realized that it looks like someone went and outright deleted all of these stores. Sigh.

They're shut. Not selling books, not being taken over by anyone selling books. Have no books in them. Hence why is it a problem?

Apparently (haven't checked in person yet) the local one is now trading as Waterstones.
I presume it won't be the only one acquired by another bookseller.

2 just like to say it wasn't me. I highlighted that they were gone but did nothing else.

It doesn't look like all have been deleted though, in my local list there are 7 Borders listed:-

London Colney - http://www.librarything.com/venue/40894/Borders-London-Colney
This was my local one and was able to confirm it was closed in the early phase of closures and I marked this as defunct then
*Watford - http://www.librarything.com/venue/6336/Borders-Watford
*Brent Cross - http://www.librarything.com/venue/35052/Borders-Brent-Cross
London Islington - http://www.librarything.com/venue/43425/Borders-London-Islington
Oxford Street - http://www.librarything.com/venue/6255/Borders-Oxford-Street
Charing Cross Road - http://www.librarything.com/venue/6276/Borders-Charing-Cross-Road
*Kingston-upon-Thames - http://www.librarything.com/venue/6312/Borders-Kingston-upon-Thames

Those with * were not marked as defunct but I have now done so.

Because practice 'round these parts is to keep defunct listings as a) people might not know they were closed and might still be looking for them b) archival purposes, so people can see what used to be there, and favorite stores they might have actually liked... even chains.

Funny, they weren't appearing for me before but they are now. So um, this thread is a bit pointless now. O_o;;;

What's the actual status of them. Are they totally closed now—that is, aren't some being sold off by the companies who do that? When CircuitCity closed they were open for a while as a professional "closer" company sold them down to the studs.

So far as I am aware they all closed their doors finally in Decmber as per the bookseller link in message 1, in fact a few had closed well before that date. The administrators, appointed in November 2009, are the ones who posted the message on the Borders UK link in message 1 on 23rd December 2009. There they said it was not possible to operate as a going concern and had to close down completely, I presume though that part of the administrators current tasks is that they now have to sell the property on to recover monies for the creditors. Borders UK had been floundering a number of months before calling in the adminstrators.

Please note I have nothing to do with Borders or administration, all I am stating is my view from what I have read in newspapers and on the interweb. So I could be completely wrong apart from the 2 hard facts in my links in message 1.
