Happy Christmas/holidays everyone!

I was just wondering what people are reading over the holidays beyond the group's books? I'm giving Vanity Fair a miss due to more pressing reads. I just finished The Twin which i found to be a sad, strange (in a good way) and very affecting book about isolation and regret. I started Howards End (my losing nomination for the next group read!) today and it's good so far. His A Passage to India is one of all-time favourites.

Cheers
Steve

I'm hoping to finish Wolf Hall, then move onto Vanity Fair (finally!), and squeeze in Howard's End as well - EM Forster is the author of the month over at the monthly author reads group.

About half way through Vanity Fair - a five star holiday read! Beautifully written and a fun, fun story. I suspect Dr. Zhivago will be another good winter time read and I love long Russian novels. I could go with re-reading A Passage to India also one of my all-time favorites, but it was so long ago, maybe 25 years ago.

Happy Holidays to all.

I also just started Doctor Zhivago. I've started it before but have never gotten into it, so I'm hoping to stick with it this time.

Oh, time for some Dr. Z threads, isn't it? Do any of you have suggestions on how to divide it? My copy has 2 parts, but Part Two is waaaay longer than Part 1.

Mine also has two uneven sections, but the chapters are numbered consecutively (15 chapters, an epilogue, and a section called 'The Poems of Yuri Zhivago'). If you want two threads, then I would suggest chapters 1-8 for the first and the balance for the second. In my edition, that is about 250 pages per section. You could also divide it into three roughly equal sections by dividing it as chapters 1-6, 7-12 and 13-the epilogue and poems.
