I was reading Out of the Silent Planet and I was thinking about the names. Weston I get. Weston vey much represents the western colonial mindset and is an arrogant man who wishes to dominate and exploit. Ransom makes some sense but I don't get why Devine was called Devine. It seems like there should be some purpose, especially given the moralising in the book. I can't believe he was just randomly named Devine. Any ideas?

I don't know. I don't think so. The Oyarsa says that he's not even hnau, he's just a beast that can speak because he's so consumed by greed. I was thinking was there a connection with 'divine' but I can't see any logic to it.
