Judging solely by the books here (so these may be a bit off) but..

Amy Tan. If that is way off, see if something in http://www.fantasticfiction.co.uk/t/ catches your eye.

For U - maybe Lisa Unger. She seems to be right up your alley and I like her style

For the titles:
If you read fantasy at all, Ysabel is a great option. If you do not... let me think a bit.
