I'm entirely new to the Outlander series, finished book one yesterday and am already beginning Dragonfly in Amber. I have a few questions I would like to pose to the group.

1.) What exactly did Claire do to rouse Jamie from the depths of death at the monastery? If this is further explained in book two, please say so without divulging details - if not - your interpretation is appreciated. I was under the impression that Claire helped Jamie relive the traumatic experience in a way that would enable him to gain the upper hand, rather than be the victim. If I am missing something that is not explained later, feel free to fill in the missing pieces for me. :)

2.) Something in Book one keeps nagging me: the night before Claire was swept back in time, Frank saw a Scottish man wearing a unique brooch peering up at her outside her bedroom window. Is this an important detail (I hope) that is referenced in a later book...if so, don't divulge. I was just curious b/c this incident was left unanswered.

Thanks. I suppose these are my only questions - at least for now. I don't know why I only recently heard about Diana Gabaldon! Outlander is phenomenal and I can't wait to sink my teeth into the rest of the books in this series!

cheerio, I think you've pretty much got it right, Claire wanted to have Jamie relive the chance to fight back to BJR and get his confidence and pride back. At least that's the way I read it. Your second question is one of "the" all time biggest and burning questions in the series. We do not know the answer, though DG says we will all find out at the very end of the very last book in the series (or something like that, I forget exactly how she put it when asked.) I'm dying to know the answer myself.

Thanks for clarifying. :) Like you, I can't wait to find out! I am so hopeful that Claire reconnects w/ Jamie. Just started book 2 when she & Brianna are back in the future. Too bad Jamie can't time travel to her. I made the mistake of reading a spoiler yesterday about this very subject and Jamie being an apparition of some sort so I'm hoping he is still alive and stays that way for a long time. ;)

Cheerio..welcome to my obsesson. Take my advice..stay away from spoilers! That's all they do...spoil!

I think we all have an idea of the ghost that Frank saw. I know I do.

Yes, the possibility has been planted and although I am thrilled that he was able to "see" her in her time, I am less thrilled that the brooch-clad Scot staring up at her through the window was an apparition! ;) I am still quite hopeful of the uncertainties, though.

OK, I realize that this is an ancient thread, but I'm new to the group and just had to comment!

I have read all of the series that's been published thus far, and assumed that since Jamie can't time travel now, he never will.

I always assumed that was his ghost, and that he looked "unhappy" (Frank's word) because all he could do was look up at her window. But he says more than once in the series that he will always love her, even after he's dead, so again, I figured he would ultimately be buried at or near Lallybroch and his spirit would be restless come Claire's time.

It breaks my heart every time I think of that scene.

yes, I agree, its a sad moment. Although we never really know its Jamie, it sure seems like him. The first time I read Outlander I totally missed the significance of this moment. It is a fantastic series. I'm on my second time through and amazed at how much I missed the first time.
