Has anyone heard about the new series Vampire Diaries on the CW?

Yeah, it's based on the young adult novels by L. J. Smith. It starts Thursday, September 10 at 8E/7C.

I don't usually watch the CW (WB) because every series of theirs that I like gets canceled (Birds of Prey, Tarzan), but I'm going to check this one out anyway.

mmm, sounds interesting, doubt it'd ever make it to the UK :(

Just doing a re-read at the moment, bought the new covers, just because. I prefer the old covers but I can at least keep them safe.

Forgot how good they are. I have read twilight and find it a bit too angsty, I don't know couldn't connect with it.

I have ordered the new book, the one released as an add on to the series, will take about 6 weeks to get to the UK though.

Loving the bind up of the nightworld series too, can't wait for that last one to come out. Hope it's worth 10 years of waiting...

So, did anyone else watch Vampire Diaries on Thursday? What did you think?

I liked it, but I don't see how they can sustain it for any length of time. Maybe if I had read the novels, I'd know, but I'm still on the waiting list at the library.

well, there were 4 books in the series and there is a sort of spin off series right now with Damen as the main character that is in its second book

I think there is a lot that can come out plot wise. However, I have DL the first 3 eps and had to stop in the 1st for now... Just by making Elena a brunette I believe they lost a lot of the book fans :(((

The interesting thing for me is that The VD series is not even LJ's best series in my opinion.

The Nightworld series is amazing :) and the Dark Visions, The Forbidden Game and The secret circle series are pretty awesome as well :)

I finally started reading the books . . . yeah, the TV show is very different. I think you have to treat it like The Legend of the Seeker . . . just accept that the TV show is very different from the books and don't try to compare them.

I missed tonight's episode, so I hope I'll be able to watch it on the website.

Comcast has changed their channel listings AGAIN and didn't bother to let anyone know in advance and I only found out quite by accident on Monday night that Channel 3 which for years had always been Maryland Public Television (MPT) was now the CW and it had the Vampire Diaries on it. My first thought was when did this happen. Now MPT is on channel 22. Back in July one Friday I was looking for AMC which always used to channel 41 on Comcast to see what was on Fear Friday and I couldn't find AMC so I missed that week's AMC Fear Friday movies. It wasn't until later on I accidentally discovered that AMC had been moved to channel 77. Thanks a lot Comcast for letting us now of your Cable Channel moves, not. I would certainly appreciate a little advance notice from them letting us know they're changing channels and our old favourites will be having new channel numbers.

I dont think the series is anything like the book. I personally LOVED the book, and now the series is totally different.

They made Stefan way too wimpy. I mean, yeah, he doesn't drink human blood, and i respect that. But, he lets Damon walk all over him! For his and Elena's sake he could at least once drink human blood to put up a good fight against Damon. He could do something to show that he is strong and dangerous and that Damon doesn't want to mess with him. Maybe that isn't the way they had it in the book, but they changed the story enough anyway, it wouldn't matter.

Also, what happened to Margaret? Now they have a pouting younger brother that can only think about drugs and sex. Why did he have to be a part of the story in the first place? Margaret was cute and played a good role to Elena in the book.

Why is Vicki such a main character in the series, and why is she related to Matt? Why did she turn into a vampire? Why did Jeremy love HER? And, why did she have to die? Don't get me wrong I don't mind that she died because anybody that is on drugs and alcohol abuse doesn't have a life anyway. But, in the book she was just a possessed (by Katherine) side character. And, just wondering was it really nessecary for them to change her last name?

Elena. Elena. Elena. First, she is supposed to be a blond!!! And, in the book they described her SOOOO popular that she was crowded by wannabes every second. Now, she is either alone, with Stefan, or with Bonnie. It's like her identity was stolen. When she finds out that Stefan was a vampire in the book, she was all like "that's okay I still love you..." But in the show, she kind of leaves him. I know that shes going to be with him again, but what is going on with her? She is supposed to be with him forever and always no matter what. She keeps getting mad at Stefan for these little things, and it is nothing like the book!

Meredith. What happened to her?! I loved Meredith because she was always sweet, loyal, and strong. Meredith was like the binding of three BFF's and now she's gone!!! She was a great character and I don't see why they had to get rid of her.

Caroline with Damon? Puh-lease! I know that it's over between them now, but why did it ever start? Caroline is supposed to be jealous from the beginning of the book but she has shown none of character for the entire series so far.

Damon isn't the same either. He's still a jerk, but he doesn't show even a glimmer of sensitivity until the last episode when he erased Jeremy's memory (btw, Elena didn't even acknowledge him for that. What ever happened to thank you?) but that was it. He isn't playing the right role right now. He's supposed to be dark, mysterious and really sexy, and he WANTS Elens to be in love with him. But, now he just threatens her and doesn't show the caring or loving side at all! I guess he didn't show it in the book at this point but he made the reader's love him (well, he got me :)...) I just don't see from his character at this point what would make Elena WANT to love him? I love Damon because i like sexy, hot, mysterious, dark guys but he hasn't really given any reasons in the series to LOVE him.

I don't understand why they had to change the entire story when they had a written one right in front of them! Oh well, i still watch it and i still like it aside from vicki, jeremy's drug abuse, stefan being so wimpy, and damon be unloving, having no meredith, or margaret. whatevs

Ìt`s really interesting reading what everybody thinks about the show, because season 1 is airing here in Norway on Wednesday. I was considering watching it , but if penguin711 is right, I guess I should read the books instead(?).

well blow me down, surprise of all this year, the UK will be getting the Vampire Diaries, starts in the next few weeks. Jaw dropping really, it usually takes years for things to get on normal TV, for those that don't have Sky.

Yes, the books are better. But then most books are better then the TV/Movies that are made of them.

I wasn't crazy about the books - I read the first two, started the second two books and got so board I flipped to the back and just read the conclusion.

In fact, since I disliked the series so much, I wasn't going to watch the CW TV show. My co-worker (who also didn't like the books) started watching it on CW and told me it was MUCH better than the books.

So, I went online and watched the episodes. I was quickly hooked on the TV show, and love it much, much better than the books. However, the fact that I read the first two books may be part of the reason I was "hooked" quickly.

I started watching the series before I read the books, which is probably a good thing because I'm guessing I would've hated the show if I'd read the book first. Yes, they changed a lot, but some of it makes sense, especially since the network is the CW (adding eye candy/relationship drama by having a teenage brother instead of a toddler sister). I don't understand why they changed the aunt's name though, or why they got rid of Meredith.

Even though I've only read The Awakening and The Struggle, right now I've got to admit that I like the show better. The acting isn't always top notch (I couldn't stand Elena's crying and dropping to the floor in one of the earlier episodes--5 I think) but the music is pretty good and I'm always wondering what's going to happen next.

I read the books, two, three years ago, I still love them. I can't wait for the next one to come out. I also watch the show and I like the show too, despite the changes that had to be made.
