Procedural Question re: The Glory and the Dream

I'm currently reading William Manchester's The Glory and the Dream, a 1300 page monster that describes itself as "a narrative history of America from 1932-1972." It's primary focus is on the presidents, their triumphs and mistakes during a period of tremendous social change. I'm loving the book and I wonder... since it covers every president from Hoover to Nixon in great depth, should I (if I ever finish) count this one book as a presidential biography for each of the eight presidents? Any thoughts?

The wonderful thing about this challenge is that you handle it anyway you want. If you think that you got all the information that you want about a particular president from this one book, count it. If you feel that there is still more that you want to know, then don't. So If there's enough of Herbert Hoover, then I would say that HH is done. If, however, you want more on Harry Truman, then don't count him as done and read another book.
For example: I read 4 books for Thomas Jefferson before I felt that I had enough info about him, but I only read 1 on John Quincy Adams because it was so comprehensive. It's all up to you.

Just for tracking sake, please note on the individual threads which presidents you feel you are finished, just so I can update the tickers for the presidents.

That's what I figured. The book only covers the last year of Hoover so you're right, I haven't covered him as well as I want, but FDR and Ike - wow. And Truman, I've already read McCullough's biography so I've really got a handle on Harry. Can't wait to get to Vietnam, JFK, LBJ, civil rights, the Great Society, Tricky Dick and all the rest!

It sounds like an interesting book. Maybe when you've finished it, you'll come back here and share your impressions of the book as a whole.

Just saw this discussion (can you say "Day late and a dollar short?"), I think I'd mention this book on each thread. There's nothing that says if you read more than one book about any one president or one book that covers many, that you can't "COUNT" it. The whole object of this drill is to read about the presidents and get to know them. I say the more the better....I fully expect that I'll be reading more than just one tome that mentions each prez.

When we get to election nite 2012 we should have an excellent list developed by all so future readers have a jumping off point.
