These are show that I like and try to watch... have you any?

I'm not much of a t.v. show watcher I watch mostly movies.
But My wife has got me hooked on "N.C.I.S" and I getting intereted in "Psych". Still like "Law ond Order"
Don't care for the "Reality" shows they remind me too much of Stephen Kings The Long Walk or The Running Man. (I enjoyed the books), but I find t.v. reality shows getting to close to life "imitating art".
My Kids gave me a years worth of NetFlix for Xmass so I'm now working my way through all my old favorites.

NCIS is a guilty secret of mine as well. Not sure what it is about it - not normally a TV fan at all, but this show just drags me in.

I watch an embarrassing amount of TV and have a lot of shows I watch regularly. Like, everything in Mckait's list except Ghost Whisperer and the last two. I enjoy a lot of reality (and so-called reality!) shows: Survivor, Amazing Race, Top Chef, Project Runway, America's Next Top Model, Hell's Kitchen, Iron Chef America, Chopped, and, the guiltiest pleasure of them all, Big Brother.

I like science fiction, so Eureka, Fringe, Lost, Warehouse 13, Torchwood, Doctor Who, Primeval. Loved Battlestar Galactica.

Crime/suspense shows: love Burn Notice. Also Monk, In Plain Sight, original CSI, NCIS, Saving Grace.

HBO originals: True Blood, Hung, Big Love. Loved Rome and Deadwood and thought they ended too soon.

Plus Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert. Often, Graham Norton.

Every once in a while, I do leave the house . . .

You look at David McCallum and you realise how many years have gone by since Ilya Kuryakin and "The Man From U.N.C.L.E." days. My cousins had hugh crushes on him. (They still do)

I watch NCIS, CSI Miami, Warehouse 13, and Eureka, burn Notice, In Plain Sight, and Psych.

I have DVD,s of Diagnoses Murder, Air Wolf, and Forever Knight.

And on BBC I like Midsommer's Murder, Robin Hood and Inspector Morse.

I watch more TV than I thought.

I dislike most "reality" TV shows, but I love these:

I watch a fair amount of sports in their various seasons (MLB, NFL, NCAA football & basketball, NASCAR & other motorsports)

Lots and lots of History Channel programs :-)

I recently saw a program on PBS (on NOVA, I think?) about music and the brain. I think it was called "The Musical Mind." It was one of the most fascinating programs I've ever seen on TV.

Also a fan of Countdown with Keith Olbermann & The Rachel Maddow Show, but I recently cut back to basic cable so I don't get them anymore. :(

>11 cataylor: cataylor, I used to LOVE the show Bones -- it would have been near the top of my list, in fact -- but agree that it has definitely lost something. It started downhill when they wrote out the character of Bone's old boss at the Jeffersonian (I loved him), and continued to slide through the storyline of Zack as a wacko killer apprentice. . . I've sort of given up on it, they put in so much nonsense now. (I used to love the humor, but some of it is just too over-the-top for me now.) I think that they are aiming for a much younger audience, I can't help feeling that it's getting just a bit juvenile.

I must admit, I never did like it as much as the books by Kathy Reichs, where the characters and setting are totally different. I guess I like the more "mature" version of Bones.

There were 2 shows on PBS here recently, tymfos, one the NOVA program you mentioned (which I missed because our station is having problems broadcasting HD to oldtimers like me with an antenna and no cable), and another one called The Music Instinct, which was definitely fascinating. My son is a music teacher, and I almost popped for the $29.95 to buy a copy of the DVD for him!

I forgot a couple of shows (no surprise): but I love Top Gear on BBC America--it's one of the few things on TV that makes me laugh out loud. I love those guys.

And a show on the Discovery Channel called Overhaulin', in which older (60s, 70s, mostly) cars are "stolen" from their owners (usually with the help of a wife, brother, parent) and overhauled in one week. Some of the revamped cars are simply beautiful.

I don't think either was based specifically on the book, but I think (unless my brain is on something else) that The Music Instinct may have featured Daniel Levitin. The NOVA show was hosted by Oliver Sachs, and although I haven't seen it, I suspect it was more based on his writings. My son has all those books. His goal is to teach elementary school "so I can catch them before they start making mistakes" but he hasn't been able to move away from high school bands and drum corps yet.

Over the past few years I haven't watching a lot of regular TV shows.

One that I do watch regularly (also cited by cataylor >11 cataylor:) that keeps me in stitches is The Big Bang Theory.

Two other shows that I really enjoyed in the past was

The Secret Adventures of Jules Verne (I think they only made 19 shows)

and another limited series Young Indiana Jones.

Do any of you guys listen to podcasts?? I think they have displaced some of my TV watching time.

Some nights we have scheduling conflicts, even with the DVD-R.

I live out of town a ways--beyond cable hook up. I just got satellite TV when the US went digital in June (and that darn box didn't work the way it was supposed to......)

So I'm a newbie to all but the basic 3 networks except for those shows that DD convinced me to get through Netflix.

Biggest Loser (OK, even though its pretty unrealistic the way they lose weight it has inspired me to work on my own weight)

I remember The Man from UNCLE, the assorted Disney hours, National Velvet, Gunsmoke (my grandmother loved it) and a few other things; Star Trek when I was in my teens (though we got it translated into Spanish) and Kung Fu in early college.

When I suddenly found myself living alone about eight years ago, I realized at least I no longer had to listen to the telly *all* the time, and made a decision not to watch it. At all.

I do still own one - I have a 'movie night' with friends now and then, or plug in something like Elizabeth R or Pride & Prejudice when I'm doing extensive hand-sewing; otherwise it sits under a handsome embroidered tablecloth.

I do get a lot more reading done. ;-)

What we do is buy old series and watch them commercial free - we just watched the last season of Stargate Atlantis.

We're thinking of getting Heroes for our next one.

I bought the first season of True Blood and hated it. Haven't figured out what to do with it yet.

Except for the BBC version of Pride and Prejudice, Firefly, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and some of my favorite movies, I could cheerfully get rid of all the TVs in the house. Yup. I'd even sacrifice Jeopardy and Antiques Roadshow. Now my husband is another matter. He watches lots of TV.

I have to say, I was glad to see people admitting to watching TV. I know it had to be true that folks were watching TV, but it seems in my circle, no one wants to admit it.

I watch several TV shows when the networks put them online. With an ad-blocker, I don't get the annoying commercials. But when I was staying with my Mom after her surgery and watched the same shows on "real" TV, not a single one was compelling enough to put up with commercials!
And speaking of British TV, I just got Place of Execution from Netflix, based on Val McDermid's book Place of Execution.

Regarding ads--I confess, if I am home alone, I almost always watch two shows at once--going between the two during the commercials. If I can't find anything I want to see besides the main show I'm watching, then I make sure I have something else to work on during the muted commercials--a book to read, a letter to write, or something to stitch or crochet. If my husband is home, however, that bouncing between channels makes him CRAZY!

I admit to watching a lot of TV. We have had DirectTV for about a year and I have enjoyed new channels such as BBC America and Chiller. I hardly watch any network TV anymore. Sunday nights on HBO have become a regular event. I have also recently become another Dr. Who addict. Luckily I can catch up with Netflix and I am looking forward to the new doctor.
