Does anyone else on here know about the new LJ codefork, Dreamwidth.org ? They took the open-source LJ code and then spent about a year making it better. :D And it's particularly meant to be welcoming for creative types (thus "dreamwidth" - like bandwidth, only for dreams) so they did stuff like increasing the maximum posting length and clarifying the TOS on copyright. There's a bunch of other improvements, too, from accessibility to documentation to changing the way friending is conceptualized.
They're still in beta and improving the site rapidly: kind of like Librarything, they're pushing new features as they go and the site owners/developers are really responsive to users and taking suggestions. (Less like librarything: they're committed to being as open as possible about the development process, and pretty good at keeping us up to date. And the code is completely open source and anyone can contribute fixes.) And like LT, they're absolutely committed to no ads, ever, because ads don't work.
Anyway, it's still invitation only, like LJ used to be; you need an invite code unless you buy a paid account. If anybody wants to try it, here are a few of my invite codes you can use:
FAMPWVNYGFJG9AAAAF3U - taken
SKZWEX2A6T6SVAAAAF3V - taken
EETKA33FZ653EAAABBQW - taken
Just copy-paste one of those into the "code" box on the create new account page: https://www.dreamwidth.org/create.bml : and you're ready to go! (First come, first served - each code only works once. I'll update this thread with more if they all go. ETA: All taken, see later post for more.)

If you run out of codes, I've got a few I'd be happy to hand out myself. Kind of a shame that we don't have a Dreamwidth networking option here yet.

I have spare codes too.

Thanks for the codes, melannen; I've been wanting to try out Dreamwidth for a while now and I bet I'm not the only one :D

Trialia - you mean "also on"? They're pretty good usually about adding things if you ask; I've been meaning to ask for awhile. (Though "also on" seems to be kind of broken for lj at the moment, hmm.)
I've still got codes left from back before open beta! Most of my lj friends went and bought themselves paid accounts or got accounts for helping build the site. I'm trying to come up with other places to give them out - any ideas?
And rarm - you're welcome! I hope you like it on DW.

Thanks, melannen! I've been wanting to try Dreamwidth, but haven't wanted to shell out money just to try. :)
eta: Ack, they've been used. Anyone willing to share more codes?

All of them? Wow, that was sudden! Here's three more:
PSF82XNGC7SQ7AAABBQX - taken
K3KGJ8S79JDVQAAADFLR - taken
HEEQFFJF6EHKQAAADFLS
(And then I'm tapped out, so please only use one each, and someone else'll have to offer.)

Send me a message if you want an invite code. I have some left.
