Does CueCat work with other applications?

I need to have a scanner that will scan both ISBNs and a library barcode. Can CueCat ahndle both?

The CueCat can do any bardcode, I think. But you need to "neuter" it to get it to work in any application. The "un-neutered" output looks like gibberish. LibraryThing decodes that gibberish, but nobody else does. Look up "declaw" or "neuter" and CueCat to find out more on how to do that.

I just figured out I can use my declawed CueCat to enter ISBNs on BookMooch and Half.com when I am listing my books there. (Amazon too, but I don't sell there so, meh.)

The CueCat can generally read the following barcodes:

* ISBN
* Code 128
* UCC/EAN 128
* Code 39 (common for library barcodes)
* Codabar (common for library barcodes)
* Interleaved 2 of 5
* Plessy and Modified Plessy
* UPC-A and UPC-E
* EAN 08 and EAN 13
* JAN 08 and JAN 13

There are a few quirks with a few of these (like only being able to read a limited number of characters for certain barcodes).

When a "neutered" CueCat reads a barcode other than an ISBN (let's say a code 39 library barcode) where does the barcode number show up in a LT record? If I have 10 copies of one title in my collection and each one has a unique barcode number how does this work with LT?

It doesn't. You could put the library barcode in a note field (public or private).

5> The CueCat just reads the numbers. LT accepts an ISBN scan as numbers and searches for it as an ISBN - but it would work exactly the same if you typed in the numbers (that is, the Cat doesn't do anything special). So if you want to enter a unique barcode for each of your copies, you can - as legallypuzzled said, you can put it in a Comments field, or Summary, or anywhere else. If you put it in the ISBN field, you'll mess up your book combining with other editions of the same work (your other copies, and everyone else's books on LT).
