Turn Coat came out this week (at least in the US), who here has gotten it. Finished it yet? I picked mine up and am in the middle of it now. Loving it so far. Lots of great Harry Dresden lines. Keeps cracking me up.

Ah, how I love it that the series gets better and better.
Imho the traitor was nice to the readers, but the rest of the bad events were rather sad imho :S

I finished it in two days. Would have been one if it wasn't for the fact that I had to go to work.
I love this installment. It has made me want so much more. Just when I think I know the inner works of Harry, Butcher throws in something that is so Dresden, I find myself needing more.
This installment did not fail in providing action. It starts at page 2! I'm pondering what the zoo meeting will lead to.

Okay - my genius 17yo son just finished reading Turn Coat, and he thinks that Thomas's turn to the dark side is only a front - he thinks that Thomas is trying to get in further with the White Court, and is really under cover, but couldn't hint at that to Harry as they were being observed. Comments, questions? I, myself, think he may have a point.

That's what I was thinking too. Thomas was so afraid earlier in the book of Justine's involvement and the risks that she's been taking that I think he might want to remove her from the situation. Was still hard to read though as I love the relationship between Thomas and Harry.

I think Jim does an excellent job of leaving us guessing. Personally I like to think he's undercover too, but he could just as easily have been turned. Harry's comments on Thomas's eyes make me wonder. I don't think we ever see them gleam quite like that when he's working at the boutique.

I think that Thomas went through a lot during his imprisonment...but Murphy was once in a really dark place too and while it took some time she has come back from that. Though she's still not the same idealistic Murphy from the beginning of the series. So I think that if given some time Thomas he'll find himself again and get some of that sparkle back. Though I do think that he'll be forever changed by his whole ordeal.

Butcher's characters have always been very real, very 'human'. Thomas was tortured and that has dark psychological effects on a person. I don't think Butcher would make light of those affects. He has suggested Thomas' behavior, of being a vampire, is like an addition. He is struggling with his true nature.

While I think this is not just a ruse I also think Thomas will continue to be an interesting character in future books.

I love reading all the comments on Harry and Thomas. I thought I was the only one who thought about stuff like that! Thomas is my favorite character so it was really awful to hear about what happened to him.

I just finished Turn Coat the day before yesterday and really enjoyed it. I was very sad about Kirby though :( I recently read the short story with Kirby in it in the Many Bloody Returns anthology and so I felt a little closer to the character than I would have otherwise. I wonder if Mr. Butcher did that intentionally so that what happens would have a bigger emotional impact?

My fave part of the story was when Toot came in to fight on Harry's side. The 'Za Lord thing really cracks me up!

I do love toot and the Za lord.

Thomas though I suspect is history. He's been the longest running supporting character with Harry so far, and JB just doesn't keep that up. Every single significant companion or item, spell or feature gets a couple of books and then is either forgotten, ignored, killed off or just rendered irrelevant. I have slight hopes the Murphy may survive as a sort of love interest, but everyone else is expendable. I fear for Molly - with luck she'll graduate from the doom of damocles and survive, although no longer feature in the stories - with badluck she'll be a sacrifical victim.

Thomas I feel is fated to recover sufficently to sacrifice himself nobly saving Harry's ass one last time, but that's it. Probably not next book, but by the one after he's gone.

Oh, say it isn't so :( I'll be horribly sad if Thomas is offed.

I wait for paperbacks, so I just finished reading it today. I don't think Thomas is undercover, but I hope he'll recover some day.
