I know it's a bit early to start talking about the final book in the Codex series but Amazon has the cover posted and I had to share.

Very cool. :-)

Well I guess given the nature of the all the other titles this one was not such a shocker. Nice cover, very dramatic.

I guess this will be a fight the vord and unite the races kinda story.

The one problem that I have with the titles is that they give things away to peeps who might be new to the series and start to figure things out.

I completely agree. I recommended the series to a friend and while he didn't know what the later books were titled when he read Furies of Calderon he did while reading Academs on. He said it sort of ruined the build up; even if he might have guess about Tavi anyway he wouldn't know when it would all come out etc. or even if he was right.

First Lord's Fury's product description is up:

For years he has endured the endless trials and triumphs of a man whose skill and power could not be restrained. Battling ancient enemies, forging new alliances, and confronting the corruption within his own land, Gaius Octavian became a legendary man of war-and the rightful First Lord of Alera.

But now, the savage Vord are on the march, and Gaius must lead his legions to the Calderon Valley to stand against them-using all of his intelligence, ingenuity, and furycraft to save their world from eternal darkness.

(The first paragraph seems to be a little melodramatic to me.)

Only 2 months, 3 weeks, and 1 day. ;-)

I guessed about Tavi early on, but I wasn't sure of the details :-) I agree with those who think that the titles give too much away, but I'm sure Jim Butcher has his reasons.

Jim Butcher might not have had much say in the title of the books.

It has begun . . .

Jim has started posting the first chapters of First Lord's Fury on his site:

If that's the case, it greatly decreases my opinion of the publishing industry...

Tol-milui - its amazing how little control an author can have sometimes. They get little, if any say in their covers and very often the publisher will dictate the final title of a book as well. Sometimes an author can negotiate more rites and say in such things but that is a rare.

Why is it a bad thing that he posts the first several chapeters online?

Also a map has just been posted. It's pretty cool and not at all how I pictured Alera.

What annoys me about the map is its complete absence in the book - I was expecting the usual end-paper map, but there's nothing. Bleh.

And lo and behold, I mentioned said lack to my son, who was borrowing the book, and he gave me THAT look (you know, the one where he clearly wonders how you've survived so long, what with being too stupid to find food in a grocery store), and said "Mom, it's in the front, it's just not right inside the cover" and lo and behold, there it was. Oh, to be as brilliant as I once was ... sigh ... but having kids'll do that to you, y'know.
