My daughter gave me one of those picture-a-day calandars with a black lab on every page and a doggy saying or quote. Some are rubbish, some are great, and some need sharing with the rest of the doggy world. I won't be posting one every day but will leave it to others to join in with some of their own.

Just to kick things off though -
this one's by Roger Caras:

"Dogs have given us their absolute all. We are the centre of their universe. We are the focus of their love and faith and trust. They serve us in return for scraps. It is, without a doubt, the best deal man has ever made."

I'd have to add that in our house it's a bit of a debate as to who serves whom (typed sitting on the floor while Skeelo has my place on the sofa) but I think we all know what he means.

This one doesn't come from the calendar but it's always amused me. It's by August Strindberg:

I loathe people who keep dogs. They are cowards who haven't got the guts to bite people themselves.

Mea culpa!

Mine also wasn't from a calendar and while it's not very profound or anything, I've always found it amusing.

Treat life the way a dog does. If you can't eat it or f*** it, piss on it and walk away.

A bit vulgar, yes, but it makes its point!

One I am sure you have heard recently as it has been a favorite - "be the kind of person your dog thinks you are".

Another humorous quote:

If you think dogs can't count, try putting three dog biscuits in your pocket and then giving Fido only two of them.

#8 Oh yes! I'd heard that one before somewhere and it's so very true.

A serious quote: A dog is not "almost human" and I know of no greater insult to the canine race than to describe it as such.
~John Holmes

And a not so serious quote: Did you ever notice when you blow in a dog's face he gets mad at you? But when you take him in a car he sticks his head out the window.
~Steve Bluestone

Pepper loves when I blow in her face, but only right after I've eaten something...She just leans in and takes a big whiff. Then looks at me and says "where's mine?"

Bones loves to smell breath. It freaks people out because they think he will lick their mouth but he only wants to smell. Now blowing his ears, that's a different story altogether....

Sophie, on the other hand, will lick one's mouth . . . we have learned to be very careful! She gets excited if you blow in her face; she's still young enough that everything we do is potentially some kind of wonderful game.

THINGS TO LEARN
FROM A DOG

Never pass up the opportunity to go for a joyride.

Allow the experience of fresh air and the wind in
your face to be pure ecstasy.

When loved ones come home, always run to greet them.

When it's in your best interest, practice obedience.

Let others know when they've invaded your territory.

Take naps and stretch before rising.

Run, romp and play daily.

Eat with gusto and enthusiasm.

Be loyal.

Never pretend to be something you're not.

If what you want lies buried, dig until you find it.

When someone is having a bad day, be silent, sit close
by and nuzzle them gently.

Thrive on attention and let people touch you.

Avoid biting when a simple growl will do.

On hot days, drink lots of water and lay under a shady tree.

When you're happy, dance around and wag your entire
body.

No matter how often you're scolded, don't buy into the
guilt thing and pout... run right back and make friends.

Bond with your pack.

Delight in the simple joy of a long walk

I use instant message at work. Shady, I am listing this last one--one at a time each day. Love it. Booksloth, if you started this topic..thank you. It just speaks to me!

I love all of these!

#23 Phlegmmy, I now like Steinbeck a bit. I didn't think there was anything that would make me like his material.

A speaker at a conference I was at recently told a story about a young boy whose family dog had just died. The family was talking about how sad it was that dogs' lives are so much shorter than ours, and the little boy's response was, "I know why: it's because people have to spend their whole lives learning to be kind and love each other, but dogs already know how to do that."

Absolutely true! If people strived to be more like dogs, wouldn't life just be better all around?

#38 Hi Mycatsnores (interesting, that- neither of mine do). Welcome to LT but I think you came to the wrong place with your message. If you know your friend is a member you can go to her profile page for private chats. In fact, I do believe there is something on the home page that tells you exactly who is logged in to LT at the moment (but I'm not sure because I hardly ever look at the home page). Also, if you click on 'groups' at the top of your profile page, you will find some cat-lovers/owners groups as well. Not that you're not welcome in the doggy groups too but there are so many different chats going on all the time here that the chances of you finding anyone by randomly joining one are very slim. Hope that helps and that you have fun here.

Finnegan acts like a cat sometimes. He's constantly rubbing on the chair or couch.

Outlaw always has sleep in his eyes and he will rub them against everything, even the wall! He especially likes doing it to people.
