By the way I've started another Vargas Llosa novel 'This way to Paradise'---with so far two main characters a 19th century labor radical named Flora (Florita) Tristan who may or may not have been a real person. I'm going to google on that. The other is the French painter Paul Gauguin. Anyway good luck on your new year's resolution (s).

As it happens Flora Tristan was Gauguin's grandmother and all I had to do was read the blurb on the back of the book--though Wikipedia does confirm it.
