I've got a fairly large collection of Fanzines - the usual suspects like Spa Fon and Squa Tront - I was wondering if this group collects those as well. My largest group is of Mnenome Falls Gazette - I think I have pretty much the complete run sans about 15 issues.

I only have a scattershot sampling of classic fanzines and I put them in my library-a few RBCCs, Infinity(anything to do with Corben from that period I grabbed). I think I have a Mnenome Falls Gazette. I have a thing called ARK-Paul Duncan from the 80s that has a number of good interviews...
I think I have a folder full of Squa Tront xeroxes...somewhere...I have so much stuff in boxes that I really don't have easy access to right now. I have boxes of The Comics Journal back when it really was more like a fanzine. Don't read it anymore though...

I have every published fanzine that had Wrightson illustrations within its contents (covers and interiors)... Most of them have already been listed in Wrightson's author page....with pictures of each... (more to come)

Not a fanzine technically, but I have almost a complete run of "Castle of Frankenstein". They used to run fan comics and comic related articles in there. Acutually it was in there that I first saw Wrightson's "A Case of Conscience" which was reprinted in The Mutants-Wrightson.
Remember The Monster Times? That was a comics/fan community friendly Horror film pub that used to run some good stuff...Wish I had those. Of course they'd all be dust by now...they started to oxidize a few months after you bought them.

I believe I have a complete run of Monster Times plus that Castle of Frankenstein you mention. I've got a lot of odd-ball printed material that has Wrightson illustrations - like the Abyss portfolio mentioned above. I've even got a Captain Stern mug and a Wrightson Alien mini-standup in the piles somewhere.

So how are those Monster Times doing? You must have them bagged or they'd all be in chips by now. How many years did that mag run anyway?
I remember this one strip called "The Rat" done by Tom Sutton, an underrated journeyman favorite of mine.

I'd have to dig them out - there weren't that many if memory serves and yes they are bagged as are the Mnemone Falls Gazettes - that pulp paper just turns to dust (I sold off all my old Pulps - every time I pulled one to look at it the dust in the bottom of the bag would discourage me so much I just gave up on them). I'm not sure how much longer these will hold up but I'm hopeful. There were a couple of special issues in addition to the main run - I'll look for them tonight.

I only collect the Dutch comic fanzines and the odd copy of US comic fanzine that makes it across the ocean.

Anyone remember Steranko's Comicscene/Mediascene? The paper he used for those is still pristine white to this very day!

Steranko didn't use your typical pulp paper - remember when the direct-to-comic-shops comics were coming out in the 80's that had white paper? It was called bristol or somthing similar (like bristol board but not as thick) - sounds like it had much less acid in the paper.

Baxter paper? That was a term for shiny white stock I heard a lot in the eighties.

Not so much shiny, but a nice white paper. I prefer it to glossy paper for a lot of comic book reprints.

And I found the issue of Mediascene with the Corben Magic Planet portfolio plate in it. It was issue 40, an "all art pin-up issue"...not all portfolio plates, but a lot of cool full page images...and some portfolio plates.
I kind of confused it with issue 38 which had an article on the portfolio explosion....but not as many big images.

Baxter - that's it. Haven't heard the term in a while. I need to dig up all those portfolios I have - they're been stored in boxes for many years and I'm not quite sure where - I think the Cygnus boxes are all together (I really need to scan the BWS remarked first plate). The odd shaped items seem to go wherever they can fit. I don't think I have that copy of Mediascene - my collection is sporadic. I do have an odd-ball collection of magazines from the period (like the first 5 or 6 years of Heavy Metal that I bought off the stands, the first 6 or so years of Omni, common mags like People, Newsweek, etc with Star Wars covers, illustration covers on Lampoon, etc) - but that should probably be its own topic of discussion.

Here's a link to someone who's got images from the Magic Planet portfolio.
He's kind of a goof as he's selling each plate individualy...
(this subject has kind of migrated here from the portfolio thread...sorry about that)
...and this is a long link that'll probably have to be cut and pasted:

It looks like a clickable link.

Thanks! A couple of those I've seen before and think are in the artbooks, but a number of them I've never seen before.
