VMC lovers, I know you're out there ... !
I'd like to work a Virago Modern Classic into my reading over the next two weeks, while I'm taking some time off work. Chosen for your consideration are 7 VMCs that have been in my library the longest:
- The Lost Traveller by Antonia White (second in the Frost in May trilogy)
- Adam's Breed by Radclyffe Hall
- Company Parade by Storm Jameson
- In a Summer Season by Elizabeth Taylor
- Cullum by E. Arnot Robertson
- The Misses Mallett by E. H. Young
- Gone to Earth by Mary Webb
Which one would you nudge, and why?
2Cariola
Well, I would nudge The Lost Traveller, because I think I just saw Frost in May on your list of best books of 2008, so why not continue with a good thing?
3cushlareads
Another Lost Traveller nudge, because I loved Frost in May and haven't read any of the others in the pile.

I will nudge Company Parade because I greatly enjoyed it.

I would nudge In a Summer Season because I read Mrs Palfrey at the Claremont a few weeks ago, loved it, determined to seek out more Elizabeth Taylor, and have read some good reviews of this. But the Antonia White would be my second choice.

I also nudge In a Summer Season!

I will nudge Gone to Earth. I love the the rural society that Mary Webb portrays so well. This book is a sad but lovely story about what it means to be a woman in this particular culture.

I'll also nudge Gone to Earth (though I haven't read it) , because I am so fond of Precious Bane.

Well, the nudges here are rather inconclusive: 2 each for The Lost Traveller, In a Summer Season, and Gone to Earth. I'm not in the mood for sad right now, so I'll wait on Gone to Earth.
So I've arbitrarily decided to read The Lost Traveller next (in fact, I'll start tomorrow). And I'll read the Elizabeth Taylor in January.
Thanks for the nudges!

Thanks to all who nudged The Lost Traveller. I really enjoyed it. I thought it was much better than Frost in May, mostly because the characters were developed more fully. Thanks Cariola and cmt!
I'll be reading In a Summer Season later on in January.
