2008 Ice Storm - how did you fare?

So, how have you fared in the ice storm (providing you can answer because you now have power and internet...).

Westford (MA) made CNN news apparently. We lost power Thursday night a couple of times which made us gather up our LED flashlights before the power when out completely. Our basement flooded. We stayed the first night and then decamped to the Burlington Marriott for two nights. We managed to borrow a generator and hooked up our sump pump and two neighbors' pumps to it to start getting the water out of our basements.

On a trip north through town on Friday afternoon to take our freezer contents to my daughter's house (near exit 8 Nashua, she had power); all of the traffic lights were out except two, both of which were near the highways; it wasn't much better on Saturday. The devastation was spectacular, quite moving actually. And I was sad to see that all the trees on the town common had taken a lot of damage. We got our power back on Sunday, just as we were trying to decide what else to take from the house (it was then down to 42º and we expected it might go below freezing inside that night).

There is still no school in town. Not all of the schools have power and two were being used as shelters. Some communities have canceled school through the holidays at this point.

Wow, you had it much worse than we did!

I live in Western MA up near the VT and NH borders. We lost our power Thursday night and were back up by Saturday afternoon. I was very bummed because I was just adding the finishing touches on my review for Under the Mistletoe when everything went black and I lost the whole thing *sigh*

In the process of hooking a generator up Friday night my husband sent a surge through the house which fried every electronic we had that wasn't on a surge protector. I will definitely be investing in surge protectors when I'm able to start buying electronics again someday (which will be at about the same time I win the lottery at this point).

In the Boston area we just got a lot of rain, but my parents live in one of the small towns outside Worcester, and they were pretty hard hit. I was out there Saturday to do what I could to help, and the damage was pretty spectacular. When I talked to my mom this afternoon, they were still without power (day six!) and their schools are closed for the rest of the week. My other relatives in different towns out that way have their power back, though, so hopefully my parents will get theirs back soon.

I thought it ironic that while we were dealing with all this, the telemarketing calls still came in:-) "Standby for an important message about your car warranty" And UPS delivered an Amazon package Friday after the sun had come out. I can't even image how he got that truck around town.

School is open today but I bet it will be closed tomorrow for the snowstorm and on Monday for the next predicted storm.

Here in the northern CT we got rain, but the northwestern part of the state had ice, and schools were closed.

My brother and his family in NH still do not have power. This is day seven, and I'm sure they aren't happy. Luckily they have a generator and plenty of wood. They are flushing their toilets with water from the creek behind their house. I know they've been out and about driving around and even doing some Christmas shopping, and hopefully have been showering elsewhere, as well. ;o)

It can't be fun. :o/

In southern NH and power stayed on. I think it's because we have a generator and it's hard wired to several circuits in the house. And that we had gas. Murphy's law says no, you are too prepared, power will stay on.

One of my best friends and co workers still had no power as of yesterday. Major suckage.

I live in Northern Nashua, near the city center and never lost power.

I work in Pelham, and drive through the northern end of Hudson. My trip into work Friday was quite a shock. Everything was fine though 111 in Hudson was closed off with 3 cops cars. I just thought it was a big accident (don't watch the news or read the papers).

Then when I got Pelham, on 128 there were huge lines in the road just before the store/park. We were rerouted into a neighborhood, and several of the residential streets had lines down, so we all had to back up and find a new route. It reminded me of the flooding in the summer.

There was no power at work so I went home again after a couple hours. One of the escape routes in, now had an actual pole in the road.

Some people I work with who live in Pelham only got power back on Wednesday. Two who live in South Nashua lost power over the weekend.

I think people out in the boonies are having a tough time because all the wood has to be cleared and then all the work on the same circuit has to be completed before they can turn power on.

Hope the upcoming storm is a BUST !

I'm in Manchester and I lost power just briefly - it went out before I woke up Friday morning and came back before I was home from work. My work lost power for a couple of hours in the afternoon, though, and since my job can't be done without lights, we were sent home early.

My boyfriend is in Dunstable MA and they had no power from Friday morning until Sunday night, so he stayed with me and his parents stayed in a hotel.

One of my coworkers still doesn't have power. I'm not sure where he lives, but it's south of me somewhere. Derry, maybe? Somewhere around there, anyway.

4> They wound up going out to get a generator on their third day of no power. They finally got power back about an hour ago and were excitedly waiting for the water to heat back up. I think they spent a lot of time at my brother's apartment - he lives in the southern part of Worcester, and only lost power briefly Friday and again on Sunday. Hopefully the storm that's coming in tomorrow won't knock them back out again!

I work on an island in Maine and we had to run on the generator all of Friday apparently. I didn't go in though and worked from home. Today will be the same.

Ahhh...ManchVegas. I live right below the airport just over the town line. :)

My sister in Harvard, MA, lost power for three days, but my sister in Concord, MA, did ok. I understand some in Harvard may have been without power 5 days. I think Stow, MA did ok also, but a lot of snow on the ground.

There is still tree rubble and brush everywhere.

Well, Spring is officially here and much of our snow has melted to reveal---lots and lots of downed limbs and trees. What a mess. Neighbors have been out sawing, chipping, burning and so on.
