1 - George Washington (I count Hamilton's book as a good look at his Presidency, now for a more general biography; George Washington's Farewell Address )
2 - John Adams (again, quite detailed information about his presidency, and about Adams in Alexander Hamilton; Adams sure was hot-tempered)
40 - Ronald Reagan (An American Life: The Autobiography)
43 - George W. Bush (4 books)

How do you get those tickers to show up in the post?

16sjmccreary
Editado: Mar 9, 2010, 4:50 pm

I have read bio's of 1. Washinton, 2. Adams, 3. Jefferson, 4. Madison, and 5. Monroe. These are all pre-LT and I haven't documented any of them here. I'll understand if you don't want to add them to the group totals. I've finally decided to go on with 6. JQ Adams for myself rather than starting over for the sake of the group. So, I will be starting this list at #6 whenever I find and finish with John Q (probably not before spring).

2/2/09 - I found a JQA book quicker than I expected. It should be here in a week or so, and I hope to begin shortly after. I hope it's a good one!

1/3/10 - not making very fast progress!

LIST OF PRESIDENTIAL BIOGRAPHIES READ FOR CHALLENGE:
#6 John Q Adams: John Quincy Adams by Robert V Remini finished 3/5/09
#7 Andrew Jackson: American Lion by Jon Meacham finished 12/30/09
#8 Martin Van Buren: Martin Van Buren by Ted Widmer, finished 3/9/10

Once you get the hang of them, they can be addicting: go to this link and choose either a savings or fund raising ticker...they seem to work best with our kind of tracking. Follow the directions, and when you get done, take the center section of html text, block it, copy it, and then drop it in a comment here. Just that easy. Just remember the password so you can update as you read...I don't say that to be patronizing, but if you have a number of tickers going for different challenges, the challenge gets to be to remember which password goes with which ticker. Good luck.

FYI - I have been using the same password for all tickers, and it works fine. I can't remember any more passwords!!!!

This is my Presidential ticker-how could I use anything else? I am in the process of reading John Adams It is a comprehensive book, and McCullough seems to know how to balance the relationship between the Adams', John and Abigail and political factors to keep my interest. After all, our presidents were human and they had lives full of love, hate and everything in between. I look forward to learning about our country's politics and its beginnings with all of you. So far what I have read of your messages is wonderful and I can't wait to get on with it. Best of luck with our presidential aspirations to all! Mary Beth

The Sage of Monticello
T.R.: The Last Romantic
Franklin and Lucy
Ye Will Say I am no Christian: The Thomas Jefferson/John Adams Correspondence on Religion, Morals and Values

Of course, Franklin and Lucy was an ER book, see my review.
After thinking about it a while I'm going to count Ye Will Say I am no Christian towards Adams, since most of the letters were his and the extensive information provided about each by the editor was pretty enlightening. Interesting that while Jefferson seemed calmer about his beliefs, Adams was still fired up in his old age perhaps reflecting his original career plan of going into the ministry before being pulled away by politics.

Nope, I have a fat finger. I noticed after I made it and haven't got around to changing it yet - honey-do's - and there's more.

he Presidential Challenge is one I've been wanting to do for a while now. I think reading presidential biographies in chronological order will not only teach me about the presidents the USA has had, but also about the country's history. Since I'm not from the US, the only presidents I have any knowledge about is George Bush and Barack Obama, because I was old enough to pay attention to their elections and terms :D.

I've also made myself a wiki page, which can be found here.

I thought I would bump the Ticker Topic to the top in case any newer members want to add their read list.
