A guide to cataloging legacy libraries?

It seems to me that we've got enough projects going on that it would be nice to put together a rough guide to doing such a project, probably on the wiki. (It might also make the process a bit friendlier for people who are interested in doing the library of a favorite author.)

What information do you think should be included in such a guide?

I was thinking of things like where to find the libraries (i.e., where to find the sources and what sources are preferred), how to set up the new profile, what the minimum requirements are for such a library, how to recruit volunteers, what to do about copyrighted information, how to search WorldCat, etc.

Something other than the Cataloging Guide that's already there?

Well, look at that! Um, never mind, I guess . . .

Heh. No worries. I'm sure there are things that should be added to that, so if you (or anyone else) has ideas, I'm all ears. Also I guess we should make it more visible :-)

But stuff in Talk is harder to find and fix :-)

I'm reading up on "Legacy Libraries" so I just note it when I come across any. I'm almost done, so don't worry :-)

Do as you like, of course - I'm just not sure how many people are finding links via Talk threads from 2008 at this point :-)
