Thanks for the link. My husband and I love book sales, we have fond memories of the Penrith Library Book Sale.

The Berry Book Fair is on at Berry School of Arts - Berry on next weekend, 7th /8th March;

Illawarra Lifeline Book Fair is on at Kembla Grange Race Course on 27th/28th/29th March.
(The race course is approximately 10-15 minutes south of Wollongong CBD off the F6 Freeway).

Having accidentally missed this in the past, the UNSW Bookfair is approaching on 23-26 Apr 2009:

It seems to be on every year now. While not being fussed by what they had last year, I still managed to walk away with a dozen books. Very restrained compared to the first time I went and got 3 boxes full.

Does anyone know if the Bowral bookfair sells ordinary second hand books? Or is it more a rare/vintage/valuable book fair?

> 8 & 10 - the first time I ventured to Canberra's Lifeline fair I was very fortunate to find a very large number of Virago Modern Classics for my collection at ridiculously low prices. Unfortunately I cannot go this weekend so hope it all goes well and you find lots of treasures.

> 11 - It is similar to the fair held in Kings Cross last year - so should be a mixture of antiquarian and second hand books. The prices are reasonable but a bit more than the Lifeline prices. If you wanted to find out more information about the Bowral book fair, you can contact the proprietor of The Cross + Art Bookshop in Darlinghurst - his telephone number is 02 9357 2038.

The Illawarra Lifeline Book Fair is on Friday, Sat and Sunday 16th, 17th & 18th of October from 10.00am to 4.00pm at Kembla Grange Racecourse (about 10 minutes drive south of Wollongong city centre - It is not as big as the Canberra fair but it is quite a big fair and the venue is very comfortable.

Port Fairy is once again hosting its weekend event from 3rd - 5th September 2010:

Ex Libris Port Fairy - http://www.exlibris.port-fairy.com/

Lots of great things to do as well as shop for your favorites....I rather fancy the "Barbara Cartland Book Hurl" posted as an event for the athletic!

Can't get to Port Fairy I'm afraid, but Sydney's 2MBS-FM's Book and Record Bazaar is being held from Friday August 27 until Sunday 5 September in Crow's Nest:

Edited to add that I don't think Book Hurling's on the agenda though (more's the pity).

Thrin... I think there would be some who would be a little disturbed at the idea of book hurling being that it somewhat disrespectful to the book...but there are some books that are a waste of paper so putting them to another use is the best solution! ;)

Exactly..... and I've just seen this Dorothy Parker aperçu posted by debavp on another thread.

"This is not a novel to be tossed aside lightly. It should be thrown with great force."

I have used that one here and on the DBA Bulletin board on a number of occasions too - primarily with respect to Conn Iggulden's Empire series.

Cheers

For those who are looking for something to do on Sunday 2nd Jan, the Atrium Book Market at Federation Square will be open! Sunday trading this weekend will replace the Saturday Market which is apparently closed for New Year's Day.

Perth sucks, but it is better than living in the country!

I grew up in Kalgoorlie, and I would hang out for the State Library visit every 3 years, when they would set up shop in a big old shearing shed down the race roud, and have a 3-day discard sale! I would often come home with 100 books or more. And 3 years later, I would take a stack back that I didn't really like, and let the State Library re-sell them (the guy at the register would often give me a discount when I did that!
