I've been told that J. Harry Wray's new book Pedal Power is good, and I'm eagerly awaiting my copy. Anyone else planning to read it?

Have you managed to get hold of this yet? I've not seen it over in the UK.

yes, in the US. I'm sorry it's not in the UK. Perhaps I could arrange to help somehow. In any event the book is addressed to a US audience. In case it's of interest, we discussed it here: http://groups.google.com/group/wbwc/topics (search "pedal power" for relevant threads). I found it slightly clumsy as writing, but encouraging in other ways. An amusing bit was his comparison of European cycling mindsets (slow, sociable, collaborative, sans helmet) versus Anglo and American (fast, anti-social, competitive, helmeted). The description of the a critical mass ride didn't ring true to me, however, but some of the other discussions are thoughtful.
Meanwhile, I've been enjoying Hurst's The Art of Cycling - anyone reading it?

His depiction of American cycling may be spot on but UK cycling is pretty mixed. There are large areas where more Euro sensibilities are in the ascendancy although it is true that mtb style bikes displaced sensible bikes for a long time (and more sensible bikes are only just recovering in sales).

I jumped right on this thread when I saw the topic. I couldn't believe someone actually wrote about my ride across Iowa last summer (RAGBRAI). What a bummer, however, when I quickly realized that I was wrong (snicker).
