Are your meetings starting to feel like school? Do you need some creative ideas to add a little bling or zing to your meetings? Well, this is the discussion thread where we can all share the fun things we've done with our bookgroups, or that we've heard others do.

I've run about a dozen "book group networking nights" over the past several years and have been able to hear all different kinds of book groups' clever ideas. A book group's two biggest resources are their community and the internet.
Here are a few that have been shared with me:
*give your meeting a theme based on the book you're reading. This is one of the most popular ideas. It can be as simple as going to an Italian restaurant if you're reading A Kiss for Maddalena or an Indian restaurant if you're reading Sister of My Heart or The Sari Shop. But it could also mean, flowered hair clips for all and fruit salad if your reading Frangipani set in Tahiti...and so on.
*reading Jane Austen? invite someone in to teach some basic Regency dancing. Reading something of the Victorian era? rent a corset (or other period clothing like hats) from a theatrical costuming company and have members try it on. Reading a novel set in India? Ask around and see if there is someone who would come to your meeting in a sari and talk to you about the things you are reading.
*Field trips. Reading The Sweetheart Season? go to a baseball game. Go to an opera if you're reading Bel Canto; an art exhibit after reading Lydia Cassatt Reading the Morning Paper and so on...
*and one of the funniest I heard: When reading Outlander, members were asked to bring a picture of what they imaged Jamie looked like. Photos of the notable and not-so-notable were brought in (someone brought in a picture of Bon Jovi, I was told).
