I was wondering what other LT'ers think of 2 very different CW books:

Mr. Lincoln's T-Mails: How Abraham Lincoln Used the Telegraph to Win the Civil War by Tom Wheeler. From what I can gather, this is something of a popular history volume. I have nothing against that type of book, just want to know if it's worth a look.

And:

Fredericksburg! Fredericksburg! by George C Rable. Correct me if I'm wrong but this is a "new" military history tome that incorporates social history along with the traditional approach.

Has anyone read either one or perhaps both? What are your thoughts?

I recently read & enjoyed "Mr. Lincoln's T-Mails" which is, as you mentioned, popular history. Is it worth it? Yes and you can probably get it from Amazon used for a pittance ($6). Is it a scholarly volume which refrains from the occasional overstatement of faction? No. Now, I'm moving on and will be reading shortly: Lincoln in the Telegraph Office.
