I read several books in a series in which humans were turned or partially turned into vampires by kukaburas (spelling?) which are kind of like gargoyles. The first book was about a woman who went to find her father, a research scientist, in South/Central America. The humans who were turned into dhampir became vampire hunters. I can't find the author or the series. Do any of you know about this? It was a pretty good series and I am hoping there are new books.

I do not recognize this book/series, but I wish I knew! It sounds very interesting, and if you ever find out what it was called, I may look into reading it. Sorry I can't help you more, but there are some really great people on here that can recognize books when others are asking about it. :)

Thanks for the suggestion. I did post a message on Name That Book. I also looked at your page/library and got some great ideas.

I found the series by using Amazon's tag to chupacabra, which is the right spelling. I got the spelling from Name that Book.

The series is by Robin Popp, The Night Slayers.

I'm glad you found it! I have not read any of the books in that series, but I have read a few other books of hers and I do know that I have all of The Night Slayers books, along with some of her other books, in my 'Want to Read' List. :) Now I'm even more interesting in reading them!

Here is another book or series that someone else told me about: A few years ago in a major city ina south american country--I forget which--drunkards woke up in alleys with bite marks on their their necks. It was referred to as attacks by the "chupabolos"--the drunksuckers. Anyone remember anything like this?
