Hello! I am new to LibraryThing, old to homeschooling. I have a quick question - how would LibraryThing work for cataloging a Co-op Lending Library? Right now we have a closet FULL of curriculum, boxes to be added, plenty checked out on torn off sheets of paper on the administrator's desk and no real idea what's what in there. It is a project she's been trying to get to, but with a HS Senior, a 7th grader and a surprise child on the way due Dec 15, it's not looking good for the closet. I am going to volunteer, but I really don't know where to start. I found this site and thought it would be great for our group to be able to browse the library to see what we have. Any ideas on how I could mark things checked out or available? It would be something I guess i would update yearly as these things usually get checked out for an entire school year.

Thanks for your help!!!

You can easily used tags to denote what's been checked out. Since it looks like your loan periods are quite long it would be simple to change the tag on a book when it leaves or comes back.

Also, the comments box is a good place to note when it was checked out and by whom. Then when they return it, just remove the comment.

I've been wanting to do something like this for the homeschoolers in our community, but I have no space to store things in, not even a closet. I was thinking each person in our group could start an account (they are free up to 200 books) and then list those books they were willing to share. If we made a private group, we could then tag our books to that group or something to see what is available. Sadly, I've had no positive response from the group. Everyone is just too busy homeschooling!

There is a group called church libraries here, you might read some of the threads in there, they may be of help. Are you going to do this on your account? Because they do have a yearly charge here for libraries, don't know whether that applies to one in your home, you would have to check the TOS.
