Does it have anything to do with the book? I loved the book! Is this a new tv show? More info, please!

Tell more, I haven't heard of it either.

Well, Lost in Austen the book is basically a Jane Austen choose-your-own adventure. It starts out with the plot of Pride and Prejudice and then can make choices that might lead you into the other books. I think it was a lot of fun, although I had (admittedly kind of obsessive, due to Henry Tilney love) Issues with the Northanger Abbey storyline.

What's the one you can watch?

If this works it is a link to the TV website.

http://www.itv.com/Drama/perioddrama/LostInAusten/default.html

The idea for the programme is that a modern day girl named Amanda Price finds Elisabeth Bennett standing in her bathroom claiming to have come through a magic door in the attic of her house. Amanda goes through and can't get the door back open so has to stay with Elisabeth's family while Elisabeth enjoys modern day England.

I saw an episode of this while visiting the UK recently and it looks funny although I have not read the book. She is shockingly modern but it was quite funny in a slightly more slapstick way than Austen.

The episode I saw she kneed Mr. Collins in the groin which was I have to say quite satisfying.

I so desperately want to see this, will it be on US tv at all? Unfortunately I miss most Austen productions because we do not get PBS nor the classic BBC.

I really enjoyed watching this series and it's now one of my favourites. I brought it on DVD when it was released (and at a good price). In it's own way, I found it very enjoyable, funny and magical.

I've been watching all 4 parts of Lost in Austen and I liked it very much. First, I've to admit, I was sceptical but it turned out be a very nice and funny mini-series to watch. It's great to see how Amada Price tries to fit in that regency-society.

Does anyone think she/he could live "in an Austen novel" without missing our modern live too much?!

My daughter and I finally got to see this on DVD and loved it!! Neither of us normally like to see a Jane Austen book "messed around with", but this was cleverly and enjoyably done. Really charming.

We're hoping it's successful enough that the same team may take on other Austen books.

11 Sadly there won't be a further series of this commissioned in the UK - due to the credit crunch drama production has been scaled back here and this series was one of the early casualties. Its a shame.

Thanks, riverwillow. Too bad! It was a beautiful production (we enjoyed the dvd extra on how it was made), well-written and well-acted.

I love Lost in Austen!!! Should save up for it. I rarely like Austen fanfics, but this one turned out very well. I highly recommened The Confessions of a Jane Austen Addict (I'll post the author later when I remember). It's not in any way related to Lost in Austen, but it's about an Austen addict who slips through time into another girl's body in the Austen era. Jane also makes a hilarious cameo. I didn't think it'd be very good, but it totally was. It was worth the read, and the expensive paperback.

It's available on Netflix. I watched it yesterday and really enjoyed it (and I can see that it would be very expensive to produce. The grand houses, the costumes...)

I love Lost in Austen! I'm a total Jane Austen fan, and am usually very sceptical about offshoots. But I entranced by the show. Does anyone know if it has come out on DVD yet? (And if Barnes and Noble would carry it?)

Amazon UK is showing Region 1 DVDs available on import, so I assume that means that Barnes and Nobel will have copies, but if not, and your DVD can cope, its definitely out on DVD here in the UK so you could pick up an import.

It's available on Amazon in the U.S. (that's where I got it):

I'm an entranced skeptic, too!

I missed this when it was broadcast in the UK because I saw it billed and basically ran away with my hands over my head - it looked horrendous. Then the reviews started coming in and I gave it a try (dipped my toe in with extreme caution) and it was great. Just so funny. Had me barking aloud with laughter, and not much makes me do that. Just couldn't imagine how it was all going to turn out.

Then I made my family watch it - this is my husband and grown-up sons, mind you - and they barked out loud too.

Only warning I would give is that the first five or ten minutes is the weakest, so don't be put off - stick with it through the awkward opening and give it a proper chance.

I found it hilarious also. :) I've only seen a few episodes, but I find it brilliant. The actress, Gemima Rooper, is exquisite. (And this is coming from someone who hates Austen offshoots!)

I too usually hate Austen offshoots, but I thought this was great fun. I'm going to order the DVD from Amazon, but I watched it on YouTube for free. It's quite chopped up (some of the clips are only a minute or two), so you have to keep track of what episode and part you're on, but it's there instantly and free. It's amazing what you can find (and not find) on YouTube.

I just finished watching it last night! Netflix has it playable on your computer. I really didn't think I was going to like it. I had caught a brief bit of it when it was on TV and stop watching quickly because I really had no clue as to what was going on. But now that I've seen it all I have to say I LOVED IT! I thought it was great. Especially the part where she makes Darcy go into the water! HYSTERICAL! Totally what I would do. Also Loved that she was named Amanda, made the whole part where he says the meaning of her name wonderful since, I too, am an Amanda!

You're inspiring me to watch it again, Mandy. I really enjoyed it.

Even though I find it very long, I really liked it. It's unexpected twists are funny, and Mr Colins could not be creepier!

Well, it was a TV series, not a movie. I always watch it in chunks--too long to watch in one go. Yes, Mr Colins is soo creepy! Very well done, I think. Because he would have been at least that creepy in the original, but Jane just wouldn't have had the lack of manners or the language to describe it.

I also loved it! I saw it on the 'ovation' channel on dish a while back...they seem to play it off and on! I would love to eventually get the dvd though especially if it has extras!

Hmmm... I did not think about the extras. If anyone here has the DVD can they please let us know if there are extras. Thanks. I watched the movie on Netflix, so I don't have access to extras.

After reading this thread I was really curious about this "adaptation". As I was having a free afternoon last week I decided to watch them all and I must say I really liked it. It was hilarious and, as others have already said, the scene with Darcy in the water was brilliant.

I think that the fact that is a parody makes easier to forgive minor defects and also allow us to have a great time laughing at ourselves and our "fandom".

Should I give the book a try?
