I just joined the group because, out of the blue, BBC 4 wanted to use a poem of mine, "For Librarians," on a show that ran on August 17. I was just wondering if anyone heard the show. I wasn't able to, but someone is sending be a CD-R. I never learned what the topic of the show was, but apparently the series is called "Something Understood." Anyway, greetings to all.

ostrom ~

I looked it up and found the program, 'Something Understood' on the BBC 4 website. The BBC has a feature which allows you to listen to programs for up to 7 days after they have been aired.

Go to http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/religion/somethingunderstood.shtml

and click on 'Listen to the latest edition' to hear the program which was broadcast on August 17.

Skip to about 11:55 (just after the Fahrenheit 451 theme music) I think your poem is read then.

I can't guarantee that this edition will be available online for much longer as the 7 days is nearly up!

'Something Understood' is the 'spiritual' slot just before the midnight news on Sunday. Non-denominational, it is a mixture of music, poems and readings around a theme. I find it quite annoying because it is so wishy-washy.

I hadn't heard of the program until ostrom mentioned it. But then I don't live in the UK and rely solely on the 'listen again' feature, usually for BBC 7 shows. Of the small snippets I heard it I thought the music and readings were very relaxing (perhaps since the topic was books, libraries and librarians?).

Anyway, congrats to Hans Ostrom for having his poem featured on the BBC! :)

Thanks for the warm congratulations, and Happy New Year. I finally listened to the program. The BBC hires great readers (no surprise there).
