Hi All

Was wondering what people would say to a book club starting in our Jim Butcher forums? I noticed the Jim Butcher website forum has started a book club for the Dresden files and has gone way back to the start of Dresden in anticipation of the new book due out. Their current schedule currently looks like this http://www.jimbutcheronline.com/bb/index.php/topic,394.0.html we could perhaps modify this to our needs?

Let me know what you all think.

I like the idea of a JB book club...but I don't think I'll have the time to reread the series before the new book comes out.

Im glad someone replied I was begining to think I was on my own on this one.

Well maybe we can just do a couple of chapters per month (or a chapter) and just see how we are all cruising after awhile. I noticed the Harry Potter forum only did one chapter at a time and did not seem to be in a hurry.

Everyone here seems pretty busy so a chapter per month might be feasible for everyone?

What do you think?

Could be a good idea. Although I don't know where my JB books are right now. =(

All my Alera books are with a friend to read...and Harry is locked up in boxes...waiting for me to get knew bookshelves so that he and Bob and can enjoy the new digs.

I want in! I read the books only 2 months or so ago and I already want to reread them.
It would be lots of fun to have some people to laugh with, I think it would (if possible) make the books even better.

OK so far we are a book club of 3 :)

Is there any particular book we want to start with. Irish I am conscious of your MIA JB Books so perhaps which ever one you can get your hands on?

I suggest we start with Storm Front, that being the first book in the Dresden Files, but then thats just me.

I am thinking the same thing. Did we want to do this as a project for next month? We can start reading on the 1st and give it till the end of the month (unless we all wizz through the book). I am on holidays at the moment and I know Irish is too so we cant get near our dresden books at the moment :)

I'd love to be included! I read all of his books within the last few months, and wouldn't mind re-reading them and chatting about them - I really loved them!

Hi! I loved Storm Front! I'm in, if we do this. (I don't think I can do a chapter a week, though. More likely the whole book in 2 days. lol)

hahahaha Storeetllr. I suggested the whole month as I know a horrible thing called life can get in th way of reading time :)

Perhaps to get an idea of how we are all travelling reading wise at the end of the 1st week of Oct we can check and see were people are up to?

I have never run a book club so I open to suggestions as to what others do and what works well.

Perhaps if we aim for the first two weeks can be the first half of the book (sorry I do not have the book on me so not sure what that would be).

So if we set a deadline for Sunday 12th October for the first half of the book?

I will also check after the first week to see how we are travelling and if people want to move the deadlines?

Let me know what you all think.

Works for me! I'll also try to restrain myself. You'd think it would be easy, seeing as I already read the book and know how it ends, but sadly I reread as quickly as if it were the first time.

I have no self-control when it comes to books and chocolate.

Okay so just to clarify the rules a little.

1. The start of October we will begin with Storm Front.
2. After the first two weeks we will see how everyone is traveling.

Note: I have started a seperate thread for this http://www.librarything.com/topic/47329

3. Depending on the out come of point 2 discussion on the first half of the book will begin.
4. 2nd half of month (roughly) dedicated to 2nd half of book then discussion (same as above).
5. Next month new book.

This is flexible as we are all feeling our way and hopefully we can find a system that works for us. In no way should you feel pressured if you cant make the discussion then we will just start the chocolates with out you. Oh did I mention the chocolate part is mandatory?

The club is open to anyone as well so feel free to jump in.

edited: I just realised I let me holiday get in the way and never got back to anyone about when to officially start. I am hoping despite me being naughty (I will send myself to the naughty corner) that you all started with out me anyway on the discussed 1 October 2008.

If not then we can make the start date Monday 13 October 2008 and we wont have lost to much time as this month is a 5 week month.
